Do you keep track of how many shots it takes your rifles to come to zero ? I mean to come to the best grouping ? Then how many rounds until it opens up the groups ? I am talking guns that us common folks own . Not one with a $3,000 custom barrel on it ! Clean- cold- barrel ? I have never hunted with a clean barrel ! We go to the range before season [but we do shoot a good bit during the off season .] and keep track of each rifle to see just how many rounds to settle in,as it is called , and how many until if goes the other way ! This is at 100 yards . At closer ranges it may not matter. A deer is a lot bigger than a sight in target for most folks ?

Usually one shot will do it. But a few rifles I have take up to 3. I always "dirty up" the bore when I take a firearm hunting.

I usually fire about 6 and mark each one as I shoot.Sometimes it takes more. Then I don't clean the barrel until after the season.
