Found an older Lyman Deerstalker 22" Carbine and the barrel is pitted fairly bad, near the muzzle and by the chamber. It doesn't shoot a good pattern . I am not sure if there is enough metal to bore out to a .54 , because it a hex to round barrel ,so I'am thinking to get it relined by Bobby Hoyt. What would you think would be the best route? Thanks Jim

Sounds like a perfect job for Bobby Hoyt. He would be the Man to recommend a rebore or relining. Never had any work done by him but he's known as one of the best in that line of work.... plus even in our backyard!! Best of luck Chief!!

I would believe you should have 'nuff metal there. The .54 isn't really all that much bigger than the .50.....and the cut is half on this side 'n half on that side. Which reminds me......how many sides to a basketball? Answer: Two. The inside and the outside.

I'm not sure what the pressure tolerances are but likely they are on a conservative side before a barrel would let go. Something I would defer to a pro for sure.

He is not easy to get a hold of sometimes. He does not stop the machinery to pick it up, normally.

I'll second the referral to Bobby Hoyt. Had a .40 caliber relined years ago and it's a shooter.

Hey Chief...be sure to report back on which way you go, costs etc!! Loggy A little more then 6 weeks and I got the barrel back. Mr Hoyt did a great job of relining it to keep it at a 50 cal.SInce it was a relined , it ran a little more then a rebore, Total was $125 with shipping.

Great news Chief!! Sounds reasonable in that you have yourself basically a new gun assuming lock is good!!
