Has any powder company ever tried to make a smokeless powder that could be used in a black powder rifle ?

Ya got synthetic powders like triple 7. I use that in my firestorm as opposed to black powder.
Way cleaner burning, does not fowl up the barrel but a fraction of BP. Easier reloading when afield, and easier cleaning. With a 245 grain power belt in my firestorm, it pushed it faster across the chronograph than BP did. Ignition is just as quick as BP.

Swiss black powder is the closest black powder you will find comparable to smokeless. It's very clean burning, higher velocity vs goex plus consistent granulation. The best substitute to black power I've found is Blackhorn 209(see chart below)which I shoot in my inlines. I haven't found a substitute to give as reliable ignition in a flintlock as black powder. So for me it's Swiss in my flinter and BH209 in my inlines.

Buzz,do you use 777 pellets or loose?Do you put any bb down the barrel first.I only ever used goex but I have a friend who only uses loose Jim Shockey gold.

I use it loose, and no, I don't put BP down first. I have heard there can be ignition problems with pellets in a flint lock ?
Quite a few of the guys I hunt with have switched over to triple 7.

You got me wanting to tinker now.Several years ago I bought an RMC so a couple years ago,I sold my renegade to my buddy. In the meantine,he moves to Florida during the winter and has no need for it.He calls me today and wants to know if I want it back. He's coming up next week so I'll grab it for my son. That one always shot powerbelts better than anything else.

Savage used to make a ML that used smokeless. Not sure they still do.
They were all the rage in the early 2000's

Savage used to make a ML that used smokeless. Not sure they still do. They were all the rage in the early 2000's No longer in production. I owned 2 of them,,,,,a factory 10ML-II and a Henry Ball Custom(Henry was original 10 ML inventor). I shot 250 grain Hornady SST's with MMP High Pressure Sabots loaded w/45 Grains smokeless AA 5744 plus Barnes MZ-Expander's 300 grain & supplied sabot which screamed at 2500fps!! Problem was you tended to blow sabots plus the breech plug had a replaceable ventliner that eroded which really effected accuracy...likely true reason Savage discontinued production. The guns action was built like a tank. It was fun dabbling on the edge though!!
