The place where I've been archery hunting has a few small ponds on it. One of the ponds consistently has about 2 or 3 dozen ducks. I never really paid much attention to 'em as the group would flush as I stopped my cart. However, the last time I was out I made it a point to see if I could ID the "types." I tried duck hunting a few times in the '70's and just hated it. But....I do like to eat duck. So...as they took off I noticed several colorful mallards .....and they seem to have their eye on me.
So, what additional stamps or license do I need to attempt a duck dinner?

Federal Duck stamp for sure. Pick up at the post office. Possibly a migratory bird stamp as well but not sure on that one.

This is at my "private" reserve. Nobody else hunts this but me. I call it "Dave's 'hundred acre wood". It's a great place. Deer, fox, coyote....even squirrel....but I don't shoot squirrel.

From what I read I think I need to use non-lead or steel shot? I would assume a local Wal-Mart may have this?
Thanks for the info BTW!

They call it non-toxic shot, and it is properly named, it won't kill anything.

If you use steel shot, pay close attention to what cake is in your gun. I have never used it, but they claim you should not use full choke with steel shot ?
Hopefully someone with more experience with that will chime in.

If you use steel shot, pay close attention to what cake is in your gun. I'm learning a lot here. Steel shot will break my teeth....I got a lot of $$ in my teeth....all authentic and I don't wanna break 'em. Plus.... .....I never knew my gun had cake in it. Ghee.....all those times hunting and me just going hungry? Man.....I wish I met Buzz when we were kids!!

You wanna get a box of #2 or #3 size, steel shot, preferably a 1&1/4 oz load. Use your improved cylinder or modified choke tube. Good Luck!

I will be by "the pond" tomorrow 'afore sunrise. But, I will have crossbow in hand. However, I will likely get the tags and "stuff" this week . The ducks are always there.....I'm thinking I gotta whack a few the first time.....'cause they will be educated after that.

Davet, not sure what State your gonna round-up these ducks in but I seem to remember something like MD. Make sure to check the season dates when you buy a duck stamp!
Maryland Regular Duck Season 2017-2018 (Including coots) Statewide Season Dates: Oct. 14 – Oct. 21, Nov. 11- Nov. 24, Dec. 12- Jan. 27
If it's the South Zone in PA... October 14 -21, Nov 21 - Jan 20

If it's the South Zone in PA... October 14 -21, Nov 21 - Jan 20 I'll "credit" you with a save!! I'm in the South Zone so the ducks are "illegal" until Nov 21. I don't understand why this split season......but then....."Who am I to ask why.....just do what they say and hope I don't die."....or sumpin like that. It's like the Canada geese.....there are restrictions in the USA, but go to Canada and kill lots more of the same migrating geese.

Well, a buddy of mine gave me a box of Remington 3" mag, 12ga #4 steel shot. The box list 1300fps velocity and 1-1/4 oz of shot. This will be the shell I use 'cause I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth!! Duck doesn't come back in until the 21st.....so I have some time yet.

Not sure you can carry a firearm while bow hunting! Bowhunting is over Nov 11th. Until after Christmas.....or in a few special areas.
