My S-I-L at the beginning of this summer purchased some chickens. I think maybe 6. (Half a dozen) She did this to help control the tick population at the top of their 5 acre "hill". She seem's to think that over this summer, her ticks have been cut way back. She bases this on how many ticks she finds on her, and her dog. Well, there are two "pinch points" on their property where it would seem the most likely a coyote, deer, fox, etc would enter\exit. Last week a coyote killed one of her chickens just over the hill in her apple orchard. The neighbor who lives below on the one side heard a "bunch of noise" and looked out her back door to see the coyote vigorously shaking the chicken back 'n fourth. (Man.....those feathers can cover a big area!!) Then her son's had spotted one coyote, then a few days later, 3 more were at the other end of their round top. This isn't a huge area, but about 130 yards across for their "yard". The rest is wooded. I went last night and set up the Fox Pro and did some calling. No luck. However, I know these song dogs will be back. There's still at least 5 nice, plump chickens roaming up there. BTW.....the chicken "kill" happen at 2:00 in the afternoon!! And the other spotting were at 9:00 and again, right after lunch. (Their lunch....not the coyote's) I'll keep at it and see if I can "plug" one.....or more. Anyone got a source for a good "chicken call" for the electronic caller?

Anyone got a source for a good "chicken call" for the electronic caller? Foxpro makes a chicken distress available for download if you have a foxpro.

I do have a FoxPro FX3. It's an "oldie but a goodie" caller. Still works as good as it did the day I bought it. I considered trading it way back when FoxPro would allow upgrades.....but then I thought, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Well, my first post on the "gutsy coyote's" was 14 days ago. I just got a txt from my nephew that he whacked one of the dogs that were coming way to close to his house. He killed it about 3:00 today. (Yes, 45 minutes ago in broad daylight!) He knows there are more......I think the rest may.....just may be more cautious about "Winner, Winner,.....Chicken Dinner!" Although this one had chicken #2 in mouth.

Get a dog cage/kennel, stick a chicken in it, in an open area, proceed to shoot dogs.
Yeah, yeah, it's illegal.....

I think we are now allowed to use a mechanical type "robot". I picked one up for my FoxPro. I should have had 'em save the wings.....rubber banded them to the FoxPro wiggle thing......and play "pretend chicken" with a distressed bird.

Dave, I also have a fX3, and I have the remote thingy that came with a fur thing you put on it , which wiggles around in the grass. I actually use my FoxPro mostly for crow, and bought the wiggly thingy cuz we bought a owl that fit on it, and the gadget moved the owls head. It did not work good at all for that. It does however look like it would work great for Yotes. FoxPro should be able to hook you up with some good calls. If you can't do the download and upload thing, just send your call back to them for your choice of new calls. I had to send mine back once for repair, and their service is excellent, and located right here in Pa, Lewistown area I believe.(near State college)

I asked my brother if we could stake out his little English Setter someday.
He was not amused.
Of course, there are two cats in this house that could disappear.

Wow, A few months ago I saw a medium to large strange dog running across the top of the hill and disappear into the hay field. Too big for a fox. Thought maybe a neighbor's dog got out and then it occurred to me that it may be a coyote. Yesterday morning, there was a coyote in the cow pasture, walking along the inside of the fence not more than 150 ft from the house. I grabbed the only handy gun, a 22 and went out. It was running along the inside of the fence and apparently could not find a way out. When it saw me, it stayed on the far side of the pasture with a residential neighborhood behind him, so I could not even risk a wild shot. I walked into the pasture and south, hoping it would go north where there is just woods along the fence. As it passed the run in shed, one of the angus cows came out snorting and bellowing. It chased the coyote along the fence and up to where I could safely get a shot, but the darn cow was too close beside it. She got it into a corner and charged to mash it, and the coyote climbed over the fence with a leg caught in the fence. Coyote is thrashing wildly and the darn cow will not get out of the way. coyote shakes loose and runs off, cow is mad as heck bucking and carrying on. I don't even get a shot. In the past 12 years, I have seen coyotes four times and heard them yipping twice. Guess hunting season will become 24 -7- 365 for me.

Georgia had reduced doe permits due to coyote depredations. Now they are running a contest with a free lifetime hunting license as the prize. The contest runs during the spring and summer. The object is to kill coyotes during their mating and birthing season. The animal rightists are up in arms at the killing of coyotes and especially the starving of the pups.

Guys I don't know how to tell you this... Research coywolf. I shot one four years ago, it weighed 70 lbs.

all eastern coyotes are "coywolves" there have also been some monstrous "coywolf x domestic dogs" which can be a bigger problem because they are less fearful of man.
I understand the population here in my neighborhood is exploding. An artist 2 miles away owns about 400 acres of river scrub hills and will not permit hunting. Folks next to his property hear them yipping almost every night. Lots of rock outcroppings for dens, etc. Somebody is going to be attacked and then the PGC will be blamed instead of the Artist. (There are already stories of coyotes approaching an old lady and her granddaughter as they were hanging laundry in their back yard. Allegedly happened last October less than a quarter mile from the New Bridgeville Fire Hall.

It's all good when tree huggers are "saving the animal world".....until one of their children or Mom's gets attacked by a coyote or contracts Lyme's from the deer visited to their yards.
