Paper High Brass shotgun shells at $1.39 a box,Brown Canvas Back hunting coat with a Red Bandanna safety pinned to the back with your hunting license pinned to it ! A single shot 12 gauge with a hammer and full choke barrel . Gasoline at 49 cents a gallon. Being welcome to hunt at 99% of the areas or farms you ask for permission to do so. Waiting for your old Beagle to chase a bunny around as you listen to it bawl as it went through the brush and briers only to miss it ! The Cluck -Cluck -Cluck as a Roster was jumped up by the dog. A walk through a wood lot only to be scared out of your wits as a Grouse bust out of the thicket 5 feet in front of you! Getting out of the car right at day light and hearing the Farmer Rooster crowing as the sun came over ridge and cast a reddish yellow tint to the fields and trees .And the best part of all of it ? Being young enough to do it !

Being young enough to do it ! I remember,12 years old,1955.The next 5 years until I joined the Navy I had granddads farm and 2 neighbors to roam over.A 20 acre woods with honeysuckle vines was a pheasant roost.I spent hours in there trying to chase them to the edge for a flush.Limits of rabbits were no problem.Started in the garden edge out the back door. One Saturday I took all 10 shells left in the house. When I got back granddad was upset.A ringneck flew into the backyard and was running along the fence. He had to borrow shells from hunters parked in front of the house.Opened the kitchen window and collected his pheasant.

No man, that single shot, it needs to be a 16 gauge. Now that's classic!
