There was absolutely no way I was going to get the stamp at $25. I am NOT an "upland bird hunter". As I've said a few times already, a few of us would get together when an old friend comes in from out of state, and chase some birds on GL. It is nothing more than for the "getting together" aspect. The tailgate lunch, a few (or more) beers after the hunt, etc... Well, the out of state friend knew nothing about the stamp when he bought his NR license online. Which make me wonder, how many others may not know about it ? When I told him about it, he said, "I'll just pick up the stamp when I come in, in Nov" I thought, hmmmmmm, he must really enjoy the hunt, so who am I to say we shouldn't go. We literally go 1 day. The one day he doesn't fall turkey hunt. Sooooo, I bought the stamp. If he and I went to lunch, had a couple meals, and a few beers, I'd be out more than $25 if I pick up the tab. So what the hell.

Money spent on beer and pizza, is a waste of time and money. Neither commodity lasts more than a few hours, 24 tops for the pizza, if it's extra (non-digestible) cheezy?
Hunting licenses/tags last 365 days. Even if'n ya can't actually use them every day, here in 19th Century PA.
PS: My cigs run me around $12 for two packs.

IMO the PGC errored in their pricing model of $25/permit by anticipating sales of 60,000 permits in their projecting revenue 1.5 million. A permit price range between $10-$15 more likely would of had a better chance to meet their goals of sales revenue plus program enhancement. I was led to believe that the PGC hoped to receive $1,500,000 through the pheasant permit. Before all of this, they had estimated they had 80,000 pheasant hunters. They would need a permit priced at almost $19 with all 80,000 purchasing it. I'm not sure that a permit priced $6 less would result with a substantial sales increase. If they dropped it to $15, they would have to pick up 20,000 additional pheasant hunters. $10 would require 150,000 hunters. An increase of 70,000. As it is now they need 60,000 of the 80,000 to make the $ goal.
I doubt they will obtain it. Many will go back and purchase later for various reasons. We shall see how it plays put. It had to be done, and should have been done back in 1999.

Start rolling yer own for a heck of a lot less, in your spare time. Your spare time would be when you are doing all those club meetings, where you just growl at people to shut them up. LOL

Some good points there WFJ!! I was thinking more in line of a more attractive pricing gaining more hunters i.e., expanding market share beyond the 80K PGC estimate. With additional effective marketing of the stocking program along with an attractive price...possibly more hunters would partake? I think most hunters don't consider $25 a serious financial burden but with a more attractive pricing more would be more willing to opt for a permit to give it a try? For example, hunters without dogs or those currently nonserious bird hunter types. Could get them more involved in the sport?

I don't believe a $5 stamp would attract any hunters if the previous price was free. They need to figure out how many pheasant hunters there are, period.I never hunt them but will probably get a stamp now that my son is 12.We have several guys with dogs that do nothing but guide kids.I doubt I'll shoot or even bring a gun but will have no issue contributing to my son's good time.

Not so much attract as in gaining new pheasant hunter's, but retain. I do believe that a $5 stamp over a $25 stamp, would have kept more fringe bird hunter's in the game. The guys like me and my pals, that just want to get together 1 day a year, enjoy the company, and kick around some sorghum fields. I'm sure a true upland bird/dog man, won't bat an eye at the permit. I make fairly good money (not Kodiak money), so $25 won't break the bank. BUT, it didn't make sense to kick out the $25 for one day a year. Well, my pal from Va, wants to keep our annual 1 day Pheasant hunt intact, so I bought the stinkin' stamp. He could have said, "Hey, lets hit a fancy restaurant and have a nice meal, and you pick up the tab Fleroo." I would have done that too. Reckon it's all in how "value" is viewed ?

I was reading another site, and a member there opened my eyes. There's pert nary 170,000 birds or so, and only 15,000 permits sold. HEY, me and my pards may actually be able to shoot at something this time around.

Still not sure if I'll fork over the money for one of these permits.
