It's been one year since Lauren Fenstermacher took over as Resident Manager at Middle Creek and the positive results are showing in many different ways. I was tough on the previous Manager for essentially not doing his job correctly, now with the new Manager I wanna make sure to tell everyone how well it's going. I don't know where the PGC found this girl but I'm beyond impressed with all the work she's putting into MC.
Stopped at the Vistors Center about 2 weeks ago on a Tuesday cause I know Lauren is working the Counter. Sure enough the place is empty and Lauren had time to talk. We discussed Goose & Duck Leg Banding, Goose Nest Structures, Goose Nests on the Big Island and most importantly Habitat. Lauren talked about being more "transparent" with her info and she is. Remember how I had to file a right to know request in order to get info from the previous manager? Not any more, the info comes without even having to ask. It's a breath of fresh air.
The Goose Habitat improvements are many but one recent improvement was the replanting of the #1 Goose Pasture at MC. The monies came from Pittman Robertson Funding, $10,000 was spent on this project. Not sure how many acres but it's a big area. Here's a recent pic of one side of the Pasture, pretty impressive.
They added 15 more goose nest structures this past winter and the Goose nests on the Big Island were on the increase. Mowing critical areas for Geese continues at a frantic pace.
There's talk of adding some small game hunting inside MC, it's to long to type but along with the Archery and Muzzle-loader deer hunts, MC is just more Hunter friendly.
Last year Sunoco paid for 20 new pit blinds at MC, I didn't get the chance to hunt out of them and wanted to see them first hand cause I'm thinking of getting a pit blind from the same company. So, I ask Lauren if there was any way I could get to see one of them. She pulled out her cell phone and said, how about July 10th at 9 AM?
I'm getting treated like Royalty here!
So, today a couple of like minded Pa Waterfowlers and I were shown the new blind. The PGC hit a Home Run with this Employee!
Thanks Lauren.
