Had my dog at the Vets. today for surgery on her ACL. I got a call about noon time that he didnt do the surgery as he just doesnt think the ACL is torn. He took a couple more x-rays and compared it to the ones he took a few weeks ago and it showed some more bone degeneration and malformities which look like Osteosarcoma, an aggresive form of bone cancer. It doesnt look good, please say a prayer for my Kacie.

Sorry to hear that Rick. Frost's tumor is in her leg as well. We are going to find some chukars for her to work this weekend.
This will not be a good winter for you and Dave.

Well I have an update on my setter Kacie. We had the xrays viewed by an expert in NY and he doesnt seem to think it is Osteosarcoma. He did mention damage to the Meniscus and another ligament and they believe the ACL is ok. There seems to be some damage around the bone area or it could be some calcium build up and arthritis. There still could be some cancer in there but it didnt look real evident to him. So we wait about 4 weeks and have more xrays done and looked at and if there is no obvious sign of change in the bone we will proceed to have her knee surgically repaired. It is going to be a rough 4 weeks but it is better then worst case scenario today.

Rick, I hope it turns out to be something other than cancer.

So do I! The outlook looks better then it did a few days ago. The Expert see's this stuff everyday and my Vet. just wasnt sure so that is why he sent it off. The expert see's the ligament damage and some arthitis, but isnt quite sure about the cancer. So we wait and in 4 weeks we look at it again.
That is what I like about my Vet. He is not afraid to get 2nd opinions. He could have just opened her up and did the surgery and gambled it was that. But he checked her knee again and just wasnt convinced it was her acl. The expert says her acl is in tact but her Meniscus is torn and some other ligament has damage. Hopefully that is the only problem in there!

My not so good day turned into a great day! My setter Kacie does not have cancer in her leg so they are going in to fix up her knee with surgery. Never thought spending a couple thousand dollars on a dogs leg would feel so good

Just got off the phone with my Vet. He stated he has never seen damage like this in a knee before, as 2 of the 3 ligaments were torn and the 3rd had a tear in it. It wasnt so much that 2 were torn, as it was "where" they were torn. So he took all 3 ligaments out and replaced 2 with cartilage and a 3rd with some kind of graph. She comes home tommorrow and it will be 8-12 weeks of slow rehab and then we can start to stretch it out. The staff at Donegal Animal Hospital are top notch people!!
