My brother just stopped in. He took his dog, Frost, to the vets this morning. She has cancer. She is almost 12, and he's not going to put her thru the surgery/treatment as it seems to be a rather aggressive cancer with low odds of a good outcome.
He's shook up. She's a wonderful English Setter and a great companion. Need to find her some chukars to point here shortly, and make some final memories.

Sorry to hear..
I am currently without a dog. I have had many Labradors over the years and a few Beagles. Loved them all, especially the Labs that are more a family member and hunting companion than just a dog.
Trouble with all of them they are too short lived. The longest I ever had a Lab was 13 years. My last two I lost at 8 to sudden death, and 10 to unknown cause. The loss of those dogs is almost like losing an immediate family member.

That stinks Brad. Just have to think of the good times I guess.
It seems like just yesterday we got our yellow lab but it's been over 5 years already. She's been a great dog, great with the boys and definately a part of the family.

Real good dogs have an impact on our lives more then we realize. The problem is there lives are way to short. The hardest thing I have ever done was to say goodbye to my Springer Spaniel, Mollie. Now I have 2 great English Setters and can not fathom that thought of saying goodbye.

Thanks John. Gonna find some chukars for her to play with soon. Don't know how long she'll be around. Want to get Dave's grandson out with her at the club to watch her work.

Dutch so sorry to hear about Frost. 12 years is a decent span for a dog but things are still so difficult as I know in being thru the same on several dogs. One fine lookin dog who enjoyed a life here second to none im sure! Please tell your Bro Dave that he & Frost is in our prayers during this time.

Sorry to hear about Frost, Dutch. My Buddy Charlies dog this summer died at my club. He was full out crazy. He would run full steam all day every day, every minute of the day! We're sitting there one afternoon and he laid down in the gravel to take a break. He's never taken a break in his life. He was 12. I told my buddy somethings wrong with your dog and you better take him to a vet. Well he loaded him up and he died on the way to the vet. We buried him that day at the club. There wasn't dry eye in the bunch of us. The loss of a dog hurts that's for sure.

He is taking her to Tioga/Potter this weekend for some grouse hunting, and we hope to head back up next weekend.
She retrieved the first grouse I ever shot, but didn't point it. She's got a great nose, but likes to range well out in front, so, I think she flushes more birds than we ever saw. But, it's just so much fun having her along on a hunt, kill or no kill.
Dave says he doesn't want another dog, but, I think he'll have to have another one.

Just got this message from my brother:
Frost's bell went quiet today at 10:55am. I am at peace with it. She had a good run. It was time.
