Thanks folks. I enjoy this type of "hunting." Not too interested in commercializing it though. That might kill the enjoyment.

Wasn't annoying enough that 'cha got all sorts of deer and cute birdies around the place, now it's sand hill cranes.

Yinz need a moose up there. Maybe 15 years ago, two of the teens near camp swore they'd seen a young elk roaming in the area. Both good kids, but one has been a favorite for me to heckle, since he was a pup. Still is, even though he's married and teaching school. Even better, he lives just up the road from camp now, in one of his family's farm houses. Now and then he'll start to tell me something, I'll interrupt and ask if this is gonna be another baby elk story? When I got up to camp and heard about the roaming elk, told his dad the boys had probably seen someone's jersey heifer on the loose - after they'd split a can of beer? When I later saw his son, the kid was not amused, told me there weren't even any jerseys around there, just holsteins and beef cattle. I said sure there are and you two bozos got to see it, after sharing a beer.

Kate and I were just now discussing planning a trip somewhere and an Alaskan cruise was suggested. I tried to convince her to take the cruise while I was moose hunting ---- didn't work though!

Weren't sandhills endangered many, many years ago? I know that whooping cranes were endangered, but I'm not sure about sandhill cranes.
