Below are some outstanding nonoffset circle hooks that are readily available. The L7228 is an Eagle Claw Lazer. An interesting article on circle hooks: Circle Hook Confusion

I know my son just bought some recently for catfish as he had read that they work better than standard hooks.

The key is don't try to set the hook....just start reeling & the circle hook will do it's thing and give you a solid lip hook. i normally leave them run 10-20 feet before I start reeling.

I've caught a lot of flounder using the Gamakatsu Circle Octopus. Rarely have one spit the hook.

I've used them in Florida for years on a variety of species.Reliable if you resist the impulse to set the hook. The one species I did not use them for was Sheepshead.I used small J hooks for these bait stealers.

Yep.....avoiding setting that hook is purdy darn hard to resist!! I think that would be the hardest part for me as my natural reaction would be to jerk it.

I take my grandsons to a fishing pier for Spanish Mackeral. They're one of the more reliable catches there. We use popping corks with shrimp about 3 ft.down on circle hooks..We pop the cork until it goes under.I taught them to count to 5 before starting to reel.Last time out the oldest one was dozing with his hat down over his eyes.I saw his cork go under and waited before yelling down the pier "reel".He popped up and reeled without setting the hook.He had a mackeral on.I think it hooked itself pulling the large popping cork.A lady said "Are you his granddad?".Yep.

First time I used circle hooks was "live lining" live white perch for stripers in the lower Susky. I use baitcaster reels(Penn 965 & Calcutta CT400) with a loud click drag. Man when that drag started to hum sending chills up your spine.....it took all you could do by letting them run for about 30 seconds and then just start reeling in to set the hook.

You're exactly right loggy. When we first started (even now!) fishing for Brown shark off Cape May beaches we lost (and still do on occasion) a few because of the natural inclination to set the circle hook. You alluded to that a while back when I posted the pic of my son's Tiger shark. We let'm run and just tighten up the drag and then slowly pull up on the rod and then hold on for the fight...but man, there are times when when you just want to hammer back, which will of course negate what a circle hook is supposed to do. Always on the learning curve so it seems...

Nothing is better for catch and release trout fishing, especially for kids just learning to fish.
I use them for ice out crappie fishing when the big girls are gorging on minnows.

Terminal Tackle(link below) is an excellent place to buy hooks. About the only place to find custom snelled hooks with about any length leader plus those hard to find non-snelled hooks. Very good prices plus fast service! Terminal Tackle
