THIS IS A MANAGEMENT POSITION.
Description of Duties: Postion Purpose:
The press secretary is responsible for preparing, distributing and coordinating the Game Commission's Information and public relations message to all media outlets. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to: preparing news releases, columns and letters to the editors; serving as primary point of contact for all news media on agency operations, projects, programs or actions; overseeing development of audio and video productions; arranging editorial board meetings, news conferences and other agency sponsored; and reviewing all region-generated news releases. This position also oversees all aspects of the production and distribution of Game News, the official agency publication, including content, editorials, layout, design, subscription management and shipping. He/she serves as the chief of the bureau's Division of Public Information and Media Services.
Position Duties:
Supervise and manage all staff within the Division.
Communicates with all levels of staff within the agency.
Develops and implements budget for Division.
Uses tools and resources to effectively disseminate public relations efforts for the agency.
Writes and communicates, sometimes with short deadlines.
Edits and proofreads region-generated news releases, sometimes with short deadlines.
Coordinates public events for the agency, such as announcements and tours.
Works on multiple assignments with differing deadlines at the same time.
Develop and implements communication and public information strategy to promote and achieve a stated goal.
Reviews and approves agency-generated materials, including, but not limited to: audio productions, news releases, letters, columns, opinion editorials, brochures, Game News, Hunting &Trapping Digest, Calendar, pamphlets and displays.
Works with various news media representatives under various circumstances.
Presents agency in various news media formats, including, but not limited to: newspapers, magazines, newsletters, radio, television and the Internet.
Communicates wildlife management principles, hunting and trapping laws and regulations, or who to consult within the agency related to these issues.
Essential Functions: 1. Work evenings and weekends, as required.
2. Travel and stay overnight, in and out of PA as required.
3. Supervise and train employees
4. Use a PC and related software
5. Carry and set up equipment
6. Speak to various groups and the media and represent the agency in public relations program
