The Game Commission caught it and removed the trap. Well.... from what I am reading locally, the Gap eagle is a different eagle work a trap. The Gburg area eagle, 50 miles away, still has a trap.

I just read that Saturday the eagle was spotted with the chain.

Looking at the pics of the trap dangling from that foot, I cannot figure out what method the trapper used to fasten it. It looks like a snare was attached to the chain. That would be ok for using some kind of drag. But it would take a pretty careless trapper to attach the drag in a way that it could come off.
These pics would be good for demonstrating to new trappers the importance of checking all connections-the anchor will only hold what the weakest link does.
Non target catches or bad enough, this gives the anti trapping folks some powerful ammo to use against those who are more responsible.

It would be my guess, as someone else mentioned, that a drag was used. And likely the eagle just "bit" the drag off via bitting thru the wire holding the drag on. Just my best guess on it.

Would you use wire to fasten cable to a tot a drag? I have had animals fight and bite the trap and the brush in the area the where drag is entangled, I have never had anything-'coon, fox, or coyot- chew at the drag, especially that was fastened by such a long piece of cable.

Would you use wire to fasten cable to a tot a drag? Well.....if you caught an eagle in a jaw trap.....there's really no saying what type of "rig" STUPID would set now....is there?

I use old beaver snares to hold coyote traps to my drags, they are basically indestructible, but you have to know how to cut a drag.

Two years ago,we had a pair of nesting bald eagles. The one had a trap stuck to it's talon for several weeks but it eventually fell off.
