They will usually stay in the same area most winter until migrating back.

We had a camera at our feeder a few years ago, and I was surprised to get this photo: The Owl looks to be enjoying dinner and a show..... And it's doing so on Valentines day. It's a great pic.

Went back this morning figuring the abundant sunshine would help with good photos but the bugger extended his hunting area out to 262 yards from the road. Took my range finder this time and ranged my distance from the other day. It was 171 yards, not 250 yards, as I was told. These two photos were shot at 262 yards. Pretty much the same pictures except slightly less zoom on the second one. Oops! I doubt the 171 yards also, found out my range finder isn't working ....?

Good photo for 262 yards. Probably just sat there the whole time too and did nothing. That's about all they do. These are juvenile owls that end up here over winter. By the time they get here they are very low on weight, feathers & bones basically. Hopefully people are not putting any pressure or stress on the bird chasing it around.

Yes, with the naked eye I could not even tell it was an owl. I'm looking forward to the new camera that will extend my range by about 20 percent. The only movement I've seen out of this owl is when he/she turns it's head. So far what I've seen is almost a reverence for not disturbing the owl. The most vehicles there has been 5 and no one that I've seen has strayed from their vehicle, which at the closest sighting from the road has been that 171 yards. I don't know if the owl has been closer to the road other times, but there is a barn, house and farm buildings along the road and for some reason the owl chooses to stay in that vicinity. There are other fields across the entire valley that extend for 600 - 700 yards from the road. I guess the mice are where they are...

I have seen lots of owls when we do deer drives but never a white one like that. Stroupy, the WNEP News has said this is the "first ever confirmed sighting of this owl in Bradford County." Which, I'm told is not an accurate statement, that there actually have been other sightings. But, no doubt they are rare in these parts.

Some amazing photos there. I especially liked the ones where she caught the snowy owl with a catch in its jaws.

Disregard any distance claims from me. I think Kate put something in my coffee, but I also discovered a range finder can still give readings with low batteries but they sure can vary. I got reading from 91 yards to 150 yards from the same point. Gonna work on that.

Cool pics. I think that is a great pic for 250 yards. There was one , I believe at the Scranton airport (?)about two years ago. WNEP had it on there. Closer to half that distance. A collection of bad information coupled with a low battery...... I still ain't sure, but I picked a battery up on the way back from Dottie Lou's today.

Probably sitting by a well site that will eventually kill him.

Probably sitting by a well site that will eventually kill him. Nope, no well site. Just a drainage that the farmer is apparently trying to get the flora in the ditch to grow in to stop erosion.....my guess.
