Our annual goose pair has nested on a very small island in our lower pond. They started nesting about three weeks ago and the nest has been covered ever since. As we drive by the goose always stretches out and lies flat and this morning with snow starting she did that again. Generally we don't see the gander ..... maybe once in 3 or 4 times of driving by. This morning Kate said she saw him......I could not see him. I looked for several minutes and still couldn't find him, even though she gave me the; "there, right next to that loose straw and just below that hump on the bank", etc., etc, and etc. I told her she must be seeing a rock or something so finally she dug the camera out and took 5 or 6 pictures. In the first few neither of us could find the goose and then the snow stopped and she took a couple more pictures that were clearer. Bear in mind this is only about 30 yards away and she had to go to 40X zoom to pick him out.....but sure enough, there he was all hunkered down and bubbling his protest. Nice Bowbum. That looks exactly like the one that is nesting on a pond that is 225 yards away from "my favorite" chair!! I can't see the nesting goose unless I hop on my cart and take a drive, but the look is just the same!!!

If there had not been snow I would never had seen the one nesting on one of our islands. We never had ice enough to get out and cut the brush but she doesn't seem to care. As for the gander all I seen were tracks

We have three flowering crab apple trees that are beautiful all summer, the best part is that the fruit hangs on all winter until the Cedar waxwings show up on their way north, they will stay a week or so once the fruits gone, they will not be seen again till next spring, they are with out a doubt the most beautiful song bird that we have.
