Every year, I keep sayin I'm gonna pursue it but never do. I can't get outta my Spring Gobbler mode to try though. I can't bring myself to do it.

Plenty of acorns this Fall will make calling in and scattering flocks interesting. Can't wait to read the PGC News Release on Fall Turkey Hunting.
My box, slate, mouth calls will be ready. Might try a Basehore long box this Fall to see if reaches out across the ridges, hollows, and valleys.
Foremost and above everything else. Think Safety - Hunt Safely! Identify Your Target! Don...

Great to see you on the boards Don! I base alot of my spring Gobbler success from listening to your advice over the past few years. I'm truly thankful. This past year was my most successful, mostly due to extensive scouting, patterning birds before season, and actually spending time listening. One of these years I'm gonna give fall hunting a shot.

I'm hoping to get a couple trips in this year maybe combining with a lil squirrel hunting too.
Good report on the nut crop there Don!

My fall turkey hunting will be a "targets of opportunity" sort of thing. Much of the fall season is in the peak of the whitetail rut, so most of my time will be spent in a treestand or sneak hunting with crossbow in hand. I did take one two years ago with the crossbow. Then the third week is archery bear season. If I fill the buck tag early I might take the shotgun for walks. We didn't have a great hatch this year, so not too many young birds around in the area of Camp Rip-N-Tear.

That's the beauty of Fall WMU hunting season, multiple weeks, for some a blessing of scratching days to hunt, for others only a single scratch, and a few others no fall hunting days in their WMU so they must travel. Hopefully, based on my other thread comments, that WMU hunting season structure won't change much in the next 8-10-12 years, then hopefully watch out... Don...

I'm looking forward to fall turkey season. It's one of my favorite times to be in the woods with the fall colors, crisp, cool air, with a couple of friends.
For sure, I'll be taking my crossbow along the last week or week and a half as I almost always see bucks cruising the woods.
