Hello all. I'll be in Pittsburgh 16-20 November for work training. As a long shot I thought I'd ask if there is anyone that would be willing to let me tag along on a hunt after work.
My background:45 years old, been bird hunting over my dogs for 15 years, have been a woodcock bander for 5 years. Basically I'm not a rookie, believe in field safety, and highly ethical.
I know its a long shot, don't if I don’t ask there's no chance. Heck, I don’t even know if there's any huntable bird locations near Pittsburgh. I'll be training at the Cummins distributorship.

Wel, I did a Google for Cummings Distributorship in Pittsburgh and came up with one near Harmer Pa. That's not all the far from a public land that the PGC stocks with game birds. The location that you can punch into your Google Maps is: 40.414, -79.445 Now, that will take to you to Route 22 East towards New Alexandria. You will pass a business on your left on Rt 22 called "Commercial Spring" (Yeah.....I know these people.....nice folks!!) but you can't make the left for another 100 yards at the light and you will go on "Operators way". Your Google Map will take you down to "Christopher Road" which goes all the way down to a dead end parking lot. Don't worry about the posted signs on the left and right AS YOU ARE GOING DOWN and there are a few houses as you go down ....one has a dog that will come out and practically attack your vehicle. Darn dog has to be 30 freaking years old now!!!! But at the bottom of the road ...at first it appears the road goes right up a private drive, but look to the right and the parking lot is there.
There is a corn field that the PGC leases out to be farmed and behind that there are several more cut corn fields that have been stocked with birds. If you have a dog it's great. If you don't have a dog....it's WORK. But, you should have fun no matter what. When you get way back in there you will run into the waters of the Loyalhanna Lake\Loyalhanna Dam. You may flush a few grouse as well and woodcock is also a possibility. I can't go with you as I'm disabled, but when I was well I would hunt the "snot" out of this land. Great for birds. Even today's stocked ones. I hope you get a chance to go....if not here, somewhere. And enjoy this part of the State. It's a great place to hunt.
BTW.....if that's not enough to keep you happy.....go back out on Rt 22 and go just a bit more east to the red light where Grabiak Chevy is. Make the left there and go back....following the signs to "Mannitto Golf Club". Go right past the Golf Club's red building and through the "S" curve and on your left you will see a public parking lot. That land is also game lands that have been stocked. That location is "on the other side" of the dam waters where you were hunting from Christopher road. Now, across from that road (Golf course side) is all private land. The fellow who use to own the golf course would let me hunt that with my cart before he sold the golf course. I think I killed 7 bucks 7 years in a row off of that hill side. I knew where a small water spring, about 4" in diameter was coming out of that hillside....and those bucks would always come to that spring during the rut to get a drink after....well, a hard time "working." It's good to know those little pieces of info when you hunt. Anyway....good luck

Dang! That's some good information! Very much appreciated. Well, you can't hunt with "maybe over here....or maybe within this county" type of directions. Besides, the PGC won't let me on these lands because I have to use my electric cart....so someone may as well go out and whack the birds I help pay for with my license fees!!! Go have a good time....I hope you limit out!!!

I'll check it out if I get enough free time. Very much appreciated. Wish you were able to go. Ideally I'd prefer to walk along with someone if possible, but will go it alone if need be.

Was just informed that company policy strictly prohibits firearms in company vehicles, and I'm required to use a company provided vehicle for the trip. Think I'll go look at the area described just to get out for a walk.
I greatly appreciate the insight and guidance you all offered, and if someone's heading this way I'll help if I can.

Oh man....that's a bummer. I wonder if the company Prez was shot by Cheny or something? *banghead* Corporate America and the fear of lawsuits. It'll be good to get out and walk some different country regardless, and wouldn't be nearly as fun since my dogs wouldn't be there. I'm going to try to get over it by taking a trip to the western UP this weekend for grouse. Take care y'all!
