SB 77 Alloway, Richard - (PN 53) Amends Title 34 (Game) lowering the acreage requirement for dog training areas from 100 acres to 50 acres minimum. Removes the requirement to obtain a special permit to lawfully trap and hunt furbearers on club grounds and adds language providing the hunting or trapping of furbearers or other protected game animals may only occur during seasons established by the Game Commission. Further provides a person may not hunt big game on a dog training area without permission from the permittee unless the area is conspicuously posted open to the public for big game hunting. Also adds language requiring a roadway, vehicle entrance or pedestrian pathway entering or bordering a dog training area to be posted prior to October 1 of each year with either a legible notice to warn a trespasser of the purpose of the area or by legible no trespassing signs endorsed by the permittee. Also requires the endorsement to note the purpose of the area. Also provides for unlawful acts. Effective in 60 days. - The bill was unanimously reported as committed.
SB 737 Hutchinson, Scott - (PN 763) Amends Title 34 (Game), in hunting and furtaking, further providing for unlawful devices and methods adding that semiautomatic rifle may be used to hunt coyotes and woodchucks in accordance with regulations of the commission except during regular firearm season for deer, regular firearm season for bear, and spring and fall season for turkey. Effective in 60 days. - The bill was unanimously reported as amended.
A03518 by Gillespie, was described as removing species and seasonal restrictions on the use of semi-automatic weapons, allowing their use on any game in accordance with Game Commission regulations. The amendment was unanimously adopted.
HB 231 Mullery, Gerald - (PN 225) Amends Title 34 (Game) adding language authorizing the sale of antlerless deer licenses through the Pennsylvania Automated Licensing System. The bill provides for the issuance of a lifetime permit to hunt from a motorized wheelchair outside of a vehicle to a person with permanent disabilities who qualified for a hunting license under Chapter 27 or who possesses a junior resident license under section 2705(2) and who has a permanent or irreversible physical disability and is unable to ambulate and requires a wheelchair. Effective in 60 days. - The bill was unanimously reported as committed.
HB 1168 Maloney, David - (PN 1517) Amends Title 34 (Game) to require, at the request of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, a public school to offer a hunter education class for license certification at a facility under its control. The class may be held during or after school hours. The legislation requires the Game Commission to compensate the school for the actual cost incurred by the school related to Commission's use of the facility; and requires the Commission to work with the school to schedule a timeframe for the class that suits all parties involved. The certification must comply with standards adopted by the commission's director. Effective in 60 days - The bill was reported as committed with Rep. Brian Sims (D-Philadelphia) voting in the negative.
