Saturday morning I went north and met up with Tcaddis and his son for the grouse/woodcock opener. We had three pointers well more like 2.5 because I was only going to run mine for one cover since he is way out of shape and just had surgery. we ended up having a pretty decent day with flushes and dog work. Shooting not so much. The youth scored on two doodles but Tcaddis and I just emptied the gun a few times. so the days totals were 21 woodcock flushes, 5 grouse flushes with 2 dead doodles. Here are a few pics of the day only got a few left the phone in the truck during the hunts because it was so wet out. Getting ready to head out fall in Pa is beautiful good shooting T Rosco after the hunt. Wet and tired but very happy and he did pretty good, i'm so glad to have him out the weather was weird.. Sleet, sun and snow

I remember the time my brother and I hunted with TCaddis, wet snow, and cold. Felt lie deer season.
Beautiful area tho. Hunting around all those oil wells was kinda different.

This was the 2015 opener. We couldn't get together for this year's opener. I had to be in Anaheim for a work commitment. We ended up hunting this passed weekend. All I can say is 2016 was a better year number wise for woodcock and the youth did pretty well......again. Hopefully GH will post the details and any pics he might have.
As always is was a good time and can't wait to do it again.

My brother actually got a woodcock Saturday, off a point of his little Setter. His new pup had a couple points as well.

We had a blast on this outing. The highlights were the youth got his first doodle limit!! All 3 pointers had a fantastic day! Really don't really remember any bad dog work at all. We ended up with 41 woodcock, 2 grouse and a handful of pheasant flushes for a 5 hour hunt. Id say the low was my shooting haha.. was a great time

Man......that big fat one with colors must be an old woodcock. Maybe he's the smart one for lasting that long. Maybe he went to Collage?

They claim woodcock aren't all that great eating ? I can see them being akin to a puddle duck, or diving duck, since they probe swampy areas for their grub ?

I never tasted woodcock. The other year when I killed my first two, I gave them to a friend on the hunt for his 90 something dad. His dad loved doodles, but could no longer hunt.
He passed away not very long after that. His last taste of doodle.

I like to eat them. I usually only mess w/ the breast meat. mainly because i'm lazy. As easy as frying them in a pan with some butter is good
