Due to what was to be minor shoulder surgery, back in August, that turned into a rotator cuff tear repair, bicep tendon repair, removal of two bone spurs, and a general clean up, I'm in need of a set of shooting sticks. To complicate things more I'm also going to need to learn how to shoot left handled, this could be interesting. What I'm thinking of is something that will also double as a walking stick, along with the ability tobe use in a sitting or standing position.

We have a few of them Coureur. Monopods, a bipod and one tripod, IIRC. They all seem to be functional. I wonder if a flat handled cane would be just as functional?

Probably gone to need a tripod, right now I can't lift my right arm more than about 20 degrees without help from my left. Thinking I could sit on the ground behind the pod, with the fore end of the gun resting on the pod. That way all I would have to do, when ready to shoot, is bring the butt up to my left shoulder, then wait for my son to show up to take care of the field dressing and drag.LOL

Well, what use to be the Stoney Point shooting sticks has been bought out by Primos. Now, I have a Stoney Point stick that I use as a cane...and I use it every day. I had to make a new "Y" for the top as I can no longer get the rubber "Y's" when Stoney Point made them. But...since Stoney Point is no longer around....there's no sense in discussing those. I was at Cabela's this weekend and picked up the new Primos Monopod Primo's....All Models because the adjustments on this new model are very quick and solid. Now, if it will still work this way next year.....I have no idea. OTOH, Primos says right on the box DO NOT USE THIS AS A CANE FOR SUPPORTING YOUR WEIGHT!! So, you may not want it because of that. For me, I still use my old Stoney Point as a cane....but the internal adjustments are very different. Again, the plus's of the new model are the adjustments from standing to kneeling are done very fast. The minus's are, you can't or are not suppose to use it as a cane. Meh Dave

Two dowel rods, a machine screw and a coupl'a lock washers...Cheap and Works. Unless you want to stand while shooting, then they be a bit short; but longer "poles" and improvising will also work. Muab

Now wait, can I mention the use of these type "crutches" that if you have to use them you shouldn't be hunting? Nuttin' like stirrin' the pot. CDB, use whatever ya gotta to enjoy your season. Sorry you are in a bad way. Best of luck with the recovery!

Well.....now I just took a look at MidwayUSA and found that they have the Primos "Polecat" monopod shooting stick.....which is what I have that use to be the Stoney Point Monopod. Midway's "stick" is only $30 and it has the "old style" twist to adjust height....which is what I use for a cane...and also as a shooting stick. (The one that I've had for about 7 years now. I can no longer buy the "Y" for it.) But for a good stick at a good price....this would work.

Best of luck with your recovery. You had a lot of work done for sure in there. The biceps tendon repair complicates things quite a bit. I have a few patients right now with the same thing.

That's the one I'm leaning toward, in a tri pod, but like you said, I've already loss an arm, not sure if I want to pay a leg also. Have two grandsons coming up so, I may pay the price, then they can use it also. Thanks for the comments all.
