Pictures a little fuzzy and you can't see the other antler.

It doesn't take much to make an inch, but, that seems very close. Plus, IF it has a browtine, I'd guess it doesn't make an inch. Let him go, so he can grow.

I'm thinking you might have to let him go, so he can grow. Shoot a nice plump doe instead. Save the trees. LOL

If he's legal I have no issues in taking him. Plenty of buck that get by to get bigger. I see them all the time just last year I got lucky in bagging one!

He may be. doesn't have to be this guy. I had my cam set too high and got a lot of backbones. Had another that looked like a spike.

Very iffy, hopefully you get your chance at one who is not so borderline.
Always remember this advice about legal/non legal buck............."when in doubt, go to the local VFW and drink 2 Yuenglings".............

let him go so he can pass those great genetics on to future generations

let him go so he can pass those great genetics on to future generations It is probably a 1.5 year old buck. You have no idea about his genes, plus, the doe contributes 50% in the mix. Gosh, when will we put the genetics thing to rest?

Guesswork on that one. I do not see "legal" points in that picture and I would not, even if I had not got a buck in 10 years, take a chance on what I see......ain't worth it! especially if you got one last year.
My money is on him being a 1-1/2 year old buck.

Tell you what boys. Where I hunt I'd glass him over real good with my binocs. And if I saw the other side and found brow tines, or thought that kicker was an inch or more and made him a three point, I'm shoot'n. Don't care how old he is or what "genetics" he's carrying, or if there's some ten year old just down the ridge wait'n to "get one", or anything else. I hunt legal deer. I'm not about get'n bone or "giving him another year" (Why? Bone?), or saving the planet? I've spent years let'n deer pass and it's got me nothing but an empty 'frig. Anymore, I hunt deer, and it's hard anymore; venison is venison and horns are horns. You fine folks wait for your horns and age...I'm going to get a deer. Muab (Just thought I'd throw that out there. )

We can actually just end the discussion. Tell me where he's at and I'll just go shoot him. I have a SfTVP and I'm not subject to A\R. My buck season will be over and I won't be out in any cold weather. I'll just go set a few fox traps, save my doe tag for M\L and shoot skeet when the weather is good.
End of story.

The beauty of hunting is that each person can determine their level of how, where and what they want from their efforts. I've passed up at least several dozen bucks similar to that one, on private and public land, and I know some young hunters got a few of them and it may have inspired them to continue hunting. I also know that some of those young bucks made it through another season or two and myself and others ended up putting them on the wall as a memory of a lifetime. In passing them up I don't feel it has ever cost me a deer for that season...... I simply like mature bucks and find my own rationale for putting does in the freezer and not killing immature bucks. I've always wondered if "bone" doesn't matter to the hunter.....why do they hunt bucks? Why not shoot does and go to those unlimited tags areas and really pump some meat into the freezer. Nuttin wrong with either way.......................

Because usually where you are not seeing bucks you will be equally as successful at not seeing does.

True. I won't shoot that fellow even if you give me the Lat & Long. I'm really not interested in him. Now, later in the season if....a BIG IF...I were to rattle him in and he came running, I likely would zap him...'cause there is nothing more exciting than punching one that you have rattled in. But frankly, I'm looking for a nice 8-pt or better with a good symmetrical rack that I can do a western mount in my game room. (I'm not big on full head mounts)
I go to a buddy's camp in rifle and there are some beautiful bucks up there.....just really tough to find 'em. So, if I don't find one.....that's fine. I don't spend my energy all out in the field anymore. I just go when I feel good and don't go when I don't feel good.

He's a Dink! If your meat hunting take a doe. If I am going to hunt as far from the truck as I do. I am not doing the work for a doe when I can shoot one with the rifle when I have 10 other guys helping me drag it out. I will do the work for buck though. Any size I ain't picky!

Gosh, when will we put the genetics thing to rest? The thickness of his main beam shows him to be older than 1.5. When will you people understand the that every buck does NOT increase rack size with age. As far as putting genetics to rest, you should tell that to the ranch owners who take out management deer.
