Was up doing some scouting and ran into this. Thought it would be a good one to put on here!

That looks like it. I never saw it before. Wonder if the deer like it?

Supposedly, according to the forestry people, the reason we never saw it much WAS because of deer.
On our lease, we now have a good bit of it, and an abundance of trilliums, which the deer also love to eat, and was once rare.
I think both of them would be considered indicator species and gives you an idea of proper deer numbers in relation to habitat.

Tell you the truth. The habitat is really shooting up in my area. Places that use to be open are now growing. We did see browsing on a lot of the sassafras saplings. There is a lot of em too.

Interesting, isn't it?
DCNR now has to mow the edges of the state forest roads where we used to hunt. Know why? Because there are few deer. The deer used to keep it all trimmed back for them. No longer. So, they mow.
Still in DMAP tho......

Isn't it called indian turnip or cucumber? Never tried it and never noticed it 'till a few years ago. Maybe I'll dig a few and try them after some more research- would'n't want to poison myself during archery season.
