Where are you going to be hunting the first day of archery season?
If I go out, I'll probably be on a ridge, in a select cut, waiting for the bucks to head back to their bedding areas. I have a stand there that I never take down, but I'm thinking of setting up with a climber maybe 50 yds away.
Hoping to check out the spot this weekend to find the right location.

Been scoutin an area that was timbered a few years ago--pretty thick but a few heavely used trails should produce somrthing.

I will get a jump on most. Will be sitting in a tree tomorrow in 2B hunting slickheads. Small woodlot in a residential area. Two large red oaks dropping acorns like crazy right now. I plan it head in about 3:00pm as the deer are hitting these acorns hard right now in the evenings.
2 pretty good bucks in the area as well. I hope to not see them for two more weeks. Just hate bumping good bucks before they become legal.

I'm honestly not sure yet. I have 5 killer spots...but they are all for the rut.

Found a GREAT spot in thick blackberries, about 50 yds from a location I have been using for several years. Need to get a climber in there.

I'll be hunting close to home. A wood lot about 200 yards off a corn field. Not sure if it will be standing or cut by the time the season arrives. I'm hopeful it's cut. Nice draw below my stand and plenty of oaks around.

I just hung a stand today on hillside full of oaks dropping acorns. Followed a logging road with nice rubs and scrapes on it, found a good tree and threw a stand up in it. Haven't hunted this hill much before so looking forward to something new. Have had no time to scout but my dad has been seeing some nice bucks in the area. Getting out in the woods today has got me excited for the first day.

One thing I know,I'll be in Clearfield. One thing I don't know,is where. Still trying to find a good oak giving off.The apples are a no go and the beech doesn't look good so we'll see.I've been checking out a big clearcut but so far no sign.Going up this weekend for a final scouting trip.

I won't be up for the opener, be at the PFSC gig in Johnstown that weekend. Who plans these things, anyway? Seldom go to camp for the archery opener. I prefer it to be a bit cooler and a few less leaves on, when I head out with a bow. One thing I quickly learned the first time I went up for archery years ago, is that the deer are on a completely different schedule in early October, compared to what I was used to in firearms seasons all those years. My cousin's son helps look after my place up yonder and is an addicted bowman, so he has the place mostly to himself in the early part of the season. He killed his first archery deer near my cabin about 23 years ago and has taken a few nice bucks there since. He "nicked" a decent 8 pt. over there in archery season many years ago, that I killed on the first day of buck season. The buck jumped backwards at the sound of the string, so all it got was a four inch slice across it's chest/shoulder junction area, which had healed by the time buck season rolled around. When the kid came over to camp later that day, he said that was the one that had "jumped his string". Told him he wasn't gettin' another whack at that one.

I watched this little buck eat acorns around my stand for about 20 minutes on Saturday before he looked up and saw me. He still didn't know what I was and slowly walked off while eating acorns.
