Been in the market for some time for a decent machete. Will be using to clear some overgrown bamboo etc at my VA place plus brush clearing at my hunting camp & some remote areas I hunt. Reviewed quite a few & this one seemed to be of decent quality PLUS Made in the USA! Just ordered this one: Ontario Knife has been manufacturing the 1-18 Machete under U.S. Government specifications for over 60 years.
Ontario Knife Company's series of machetes is one of the most venerable and storied product lines in the company's 125 year old history. OKC has manufactured the 1-18 Military Machete under U.S.A. Government Specifications for over 70 years and that same high quality is found in all of our machete products. OKC's all feature rugged carbon steel blades with a zinc-phosphate finish and molded plastic handles.

Bushy....the Gerber would of met my needs if it had a full tang through the handle & was USA made. Other than that...seemed to nice features. Cost differential was not all that great in going with the Ontario.

Awesome machete Loggy! I have an old military machete and that works well enough. I considered the Gerber if I ever get a new one.

Chainsaw works on bamboo, but cutting it down does nothing. It comes back.
Why people plant bamboo is beyond me.

I poured roundup down into some bamboo after it was cut and it seemed to die back. Was curious if that treatment could have been used on the entire grove, with success.
Not much works on bamboo tho.

Bamboo looks great when planted in the right spot. You should install a containment barrier 2-3ft. in the ground around the roots. It spreads like crazy and is hard to kill. I have dug it out with mini excavator and then sprayed what ever shoots re-appeared with round up. It seemed to eliminate it.
