This morning I met up with another member.....that being Turkey Killer. He and I have been PM-ing about the fact that he likes to groundhog hunt, but he doesn't have a place to do so. Well, we don't really live all that far apart, so we met this morning in the New Alexandria area and I took him to a farm where the hog's like to pro-creat, and the farmer doesn't have enough hog hunters. So...as they say....a match made in heaven. Well, TK is one nice guy and I was very glad to have met him. I did a quick introduction with him to the farmer, who was as busy as a one-armed paper hanger, so I then showed TK where I hunted from. TK did not have the time to hunt today but said he would be back. I'm certain the farmer will be happy to have less hogs. I did stick around and managed to whack one fat hog.
I know there are more there....as I went there on Tuesday just to make sure the farmer was still Ok with hog hunters. I didn't want to drag TK out only to find out that the farmer had, for some reason changed his mind about hunters. The farmer was happy to see me...and while I was there (Tuesday) I whacked one.
But today, when I "lined up" on this 200 yard shot and squeezed the trigger, I swore I heard the "thump" of the bullet hit the 'Hog. But my 6.5 Swead rocks me back a bit so I can't see the hit thru the 25X power scope. So, I'm scanning for "dead 'hog", a tail wag of death, or something to see the kill. Nothing. Darn!! So, now I have to take the cart off the truck (well....it's not all that bad.....sometimes I sneak up on munching hogs and the 22-LR Ruger single-six is a very handy weapon.....with a shoot-from-the-vehicle permit of course!!) This time the Ruger did not need cleaned. But I went to where I shot and at first I saw no dead hog. But....upon further scrutiny I discovered:
Fresh 'hog blood
And.....to confirm a kill....a fresh piece of 'hog "innerds"
