Saturday I headed north to meet up with tcaddis and his son to check into a few covers in search of some woodcock. We had four pointers and all dogs got good work in. We ended up finding a lot of doodles and we had a great day. Some of the female birds were acting funny, thinking its about nesting time so this is it running on woodcock until Aug. Here are some of the pics of the day. Rosco Hazel Rosco and Hazel Husker Willow

It was a nice day. I am glad we could get together. The dogs got some good work, which is all we can ever hope for.
This spring hasn't been my best as far as days out. I've only been out 6 time, but the spring total of contacts is over 60 birds. One of those six days being a good old fashion skunking. I guess I can live with those paltry numbers.
I am sad that the spring season is over for me and the dogs, but if what I am seeing hold true the hens are ready to nest. If successful, the resident number could look very good come August.

How are bird numbers compared to previous years, I have yet to see any birds here this year, we do seem to have a few rabbits that wintered over, but birds are slim.

I only got out a few times this spring because of the snow but numbers seemed to be decent.

My usual spots are showing the usual numbers. It's the new to me spots, that are killing it.
