Kath was at a PA Outdoor Writer Auction in February and bid on a pheasant hunt at Martz's. She won the hunt, and today, my 2 brothers, and I took my brother's grandson for a bird hunt. Of course, we also invited Ti, the wonder Setter as well. The hunt was for 8 birds. Martz's put 10 out for us. The plan was for Jared to be the shooter each time. Very windy conditions, but clearing skies. What a great day to be out. Ti, the wonder Setter, set about finding the birds in the sorghum. She found the birds. I think we may have flushed 12 or more birds. She performed better than ever. She is now 2, and Dave, Grouse28, has spent a lot of time working with her, along with professional trainer Ryan Frame, in the past year. Ti has really come along. Here is Ti waiting for the word to head into the fields. Ti is 30 pounds of pure English Setter. Good things DO come in small packages. Here she is on point. Where's da bird? Here is Jared with one of the birds he got. Jared is 13, and does enjoy hunting and the outdoors. Must say, have never had such a pleasant young person to be around in my life. Very polite. When we took a short break to get a snack, here were the birds Jared had gotten. Of course, the wonder Setter had to be in the pic! And at the end of the day, here was the harvest. 7 hens and a chukar. Five of the hens were Jared's, and he and my brother Jason doubled up on the chukar.

Would like to thank Martz's for the extra birds and the chance to get this boy on some birds. It was his first time on pheasants, and this fall, he'll be out on the SGL's near Reading looking for more. www.martzs.com/

Looks like a sweet place, and a beautiful dog, there's nothing like bird hunting to get a kid hooked on hunting an Ithica model 37 I'm guessing, nice and light, looks like Easter dinner is going to be a great one, pheasants, the other white meat!

Kudos to Martz's for making a special day for Jared. Thanks to Kath for making it all happen. Dutch's praise aside, Ti does have a good day now and again. I know one 13 year old that had a day he will remember for a long time.

That 37 was bought in the late 70's by another brother. It's a 20 gauge.

The PGC has done a bang up job the last couple years at stocking some great birds, they are lighter, faster and dog wise we have a great time chasing them, you get a kid in the middle of birds flushing, dogs running and guy shooting and its as fun as it gets.

I know this dog. Ti is a real sweetheart. She hunted with my small setter 'Missy' this October in Maine. She is also quite the "lapdog". We were at Martz that same day and got after some Chuckars. Missy and Ti are quite the pair. Glad to see the young man getting hooked on birdhunting and the love of dogs. I also have two model 37's. My wife's 20 ga and another 12 ga Deerslayer.
