I am a student at Penn State, and I am doing a little survey on opinions regarding button bucks. If you could answer one or both of these questions, it would be greatly appreciated.
1. Do you think the game commission should provide more information on identifying button bucks? Why or why not?
2. If you answered yes to question 1, do you think that the information should be provided in the digest, in hunters safety courses, or somewhere else.
Thanks again for taking the time to help me out.

No. All it takes is time and patience to figure it out.

Nope! Hunters go through stages of what is acceptable to shoot. Many will shoot any legal deer during their early years, and with experience will learn to identify deer more accurately. Then some will opt to pass on young deer or maybe not.

No! Buttons eat just like the rest of them! Yum! I agree. However I don't eat the buttons, but find most of the rest of the deer absolutely delicious.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me out. Can't hurt but I don't think education will change enough attitudes to make an impact when targeting the general hunting populous of Pennsylvania. Example; When the PGC embarked on HR, they asked hunters to focus their efforts on does at least 1.5 years old. A whole section of the digest was devoted to identifying does versus fawns. The percent of fawns in the antlerless harvest has not changed enough to be noteworthy.

It's already in the digest, complete with pictures,or at least it used to be. That is part of the reason I am looking into opinion on this. They had information in the digest for several years, but discontinued it for the 2014-2015 license year.

Too many hunters NEED to get a deer, to justify their manhood. We all like the taste of venison, but I don't need a deer. Would rather let some doe and button bucks survive! Or rather have a mentored youth, or youth hunter harvest a deer.
