Yea Muab. I've actually seen whiter turkeys than that in WMA 5A down around Greencastle. We've had two in the flocks down there that we've been trying to get. There's a name for that color but right now it escapes me.

That particular white color phase is called the "smoke" phase which is one of the four distinct color variations of wild turkeys from what is considered the usual bronze plummage. The other colors are "erythritic" or red phase, "melanistic" or black phase, and the albinos which are white with pink eyes. My understanding is nearly all smoke color birds are hens.

When we get a bird like that the game and parks gives us a free tag to go kill it.

When we get a bird like that the game and parks gives us a free tag to go kill it. What is the reasoning for this? Just wondering is there something wrong with the bird?

It's because around here they are cross breeds of domestic and wild turkeys. They don't want that to continue so they try to eliminate every one they can.
