No, it isn't. Not in my book. Sorta funny tho. A friend asked an Amishman if he could trap, including Sunday. The Amishman asked him if he made money from trapping. My friend said that once you added all the costs in, and the low price of fur, as well as time skinning etc, it was a money losing hobby. The Amishman gave him permission to trap on Sunday. Actually, a STRICT reading of our trapping laws says you can only RESET a trap on Sunday and that possession of a trap, in the field, on Sunday, constitutes hunting. Hunting on Sunday is illegal, so, setting a new trap on a Sunday is illegal. BUT, we start one trapping season when? ON A SUNDAY. lol The PGC doesn't even follow the SH laws. I would be willing to bet that Cabelas, Gander Mountain, Dicks Sporting goods, Field & Stream, several hundred gun shops, diners, hotels and motels, bar rooms, etc...etc... would probably not agree with your thought about hunting NOT being commercial business, but I respect your right to disagree with them.

Oh, I will agree with you, that aspect is commercial, but my singular act of hunting, isn't. I hunt for recreation.

Interesting. Aren't Cabelas, Gander Mountain, Dicks, and Field and Stream allowed to be open on Sundays? So a commercial activity is moral, but hunting is immoral? Huh? Oh well. I can't hunt on Sunday, but I can do other highly moral things, such as drive to Gander Mountain and shop, and then repair to the local Elks Lodge and drink myself blind while gambling on the State run lottery or playing a fish bowl, all of which are perfectly legal.

Let's be honest. The major voice against SH is based on religious views, ie. the Sabbath is a day of rest. Sure there are others that play the "it will kill all the deer left crowd", and "all the farms will be posted" crowd, but the predominance of opposition is left over Blue Law. What puzzles me however, is why ignore the fact the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week, ie. Saturday? Is that just one more inconvenient truth??

Buzz, you WORKED on the Lord's day? I've only ever worked on ONE Sunday in my life, and never mow my grass on Sunday, to help preserve the quiet of the Lord's day. Of course, I've shopped on Sunday, but that's ok...... LOL Dutch you need to understand that for some of us not wanting Sunday deer hunting has nothing to do with the lords day, if it did I wouldn't be ok with Sunday small game. Sunday small game could a real nice thing for kids without us landowners dealing with the Big game hunters attitudes. And I am not including all big game hunters as some are very respectful.

All game, except deer, would be fine with me.

Why not try just one Sunday to start? I suggest that rifle Bear season be Saturday through Wednesday. Opening on Saturday and not being able to hunt Sunday makes no sense at all, and this is one animal resource that is underharvested and would not be endangered by the additional day. Try this one and then let's see just how horrible the consequences are.

"Buzz, I was raised to try to respect the Sabbath. Not that I have, but still try to keep the commercial aspect out of it.
I know others can't or don't, and that's ok. "

I like it just fine as it is, there is more than enough time to hunt, if hunting is a priority to you, if not I'm fine with that too, as you guys have posted in the past, there is already plenty to do, and lots of NFP to support on Sundays.

Not popular with all, but I believe you make a valid point, and I agree.

Dutch, I'm sitting here with my Pocket Constitution that I received from the Heritage Foundation Severalyears ago and I'm looking at the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, nowhere is hunting mentioned. I'm just being consistent When it comes to the NRA and hunting in PA. In the Heller decision, the HISTORY of the Second Amendment was really flushed out. It was the first time since 1938 that the SUPREME Court dissected the 2nd, and even in 1938, they didn't do a very good job delving into the history and the minds of those that created the Second. IIRC, the HISTORY of the Second goes WAY back, I think even the 14th Century..... So, what you might see in your little pocket Constitution, does not explain the MEANING of the Second. Heller was about 150 pages of indepth writings about the Second. Be GLAD it was done, and to OUR advantage, otherwise the gun grabbers would be grabbing even more. You're talking case law with a broad interpretation that worked out well for hunters. I carry a copy of the Constitution with me, and nowhere in the Constitution does it say anything about hunting and the 2nd Amendment. I also have a copy of the Federalist Papers and have read it numerous times as well. Nowhere in the Federalist Papers do the Founders mention hunting in regards to the 2nd Amendment. In regards to the NRA, here's their website home.nra.org/ let me know if there is anything about hunting on the very first page.

i would love to see Sunday hunting. had it when i lived in Texas and now in new york. yes it would mean a lot more hunters in the woods and raise the number of deer taken but that can be easily fixed with tag allotments and shorter seasons. its nice to know when i have a full week of work i still have two days to hunt or one. so if the wife needs me for some "good" reason i can stay home on a Saturday and go out the next day. the only issue iv encountered with Sunday hunting is if i have to move my stand of would like to scout out a new spot during the season. i have to be weary of other hunters
