Just wondering what time frame you got your mounts back. Wondering when I might get mine back. I only ever got a turkey mounted and I think it took a year to get it back if I am not mistaken.

I've had 4 mounted. Shortest was 2 months, longest was a year. Anything more than a year is unacceptable to me although that seems fairly common.
Did the guy give you a time frame?

Sometimes it depends upon what kind of mount you are getting. It took close to eight months for me to get a mount of two bears fighting (full mounts). Some head mounts I have got back within two or three months. My taxidermist knows that when he is done I am there within a day or so to pick up the mount with checkbook in hand, so he has a tendency to work on mine fairly quickly. Some of these took awhile because of where they came from.

I think 6 months to 1 year is pretty common especially with a deer mount. You have to remember they get a pile of deer in from October thru December. My kid's mounts are supposed to be done next week, but I think he only had a few in ahead of them since theirs was the first week of the archery season. He told us in the Feb-March timeframe when we dropped them off.

My experience over the last 50 years with deer is about a year. One thing I did start doing several years back was ask the taxidermist to let me hold the antlers until he needs them. There has been more than one story about people losing a trophy set of antlers because the taxidermist went out of business, died, got divorced, had a fire, disappeared into the night, got burglarized, etc.. I sign a hand receipt for the taxidermist so nobody questions who is responsible for the antlers.

Only reason I didn't keep the third was bc the taxidermist was in Iowa. Always nice to have them on hand since people like to see them.

If my antlers weren't a half hour away I would have them till he needed them but it would be a pain in the rear to have to make an extra trip just to return them when my time is limited so it is. I am beginning to forget what it looked like lol. Get impatient even though it's only been three months!

The last deer I got mounted I got back in June.I got my son's spring gobbler mounted and he got it back in Nov.I use a guy down the road from me that has a huge business with 3 full time employees. He does about 400+ whitetails each year, not to mention everything else. They send the hides away to get tanned. As soon as they get them back, they knock them off pretty quick.

Good to hear since my taxi said he hasn't gotten the hide back from the Tannery. How long does it take them to get tanned?

It's probably a good thing if he sends it to the tannery instead of tanning his own. I had one taxi a few years ago who tried to tan his own and save a few bucks. Worst decision ever.
I found a different one I took 3 deer to last year - 2 whitetails and one mulie - and I got them all back in a year.

Thanks for the info. this guy did my dad's 400+ black bear in less then a year so I can't see a deer mount taking longer then that.

Stroupy....my Dad was a taxidermist who outsourced his tanning to a tannery. During the busy season on average a 3-6 mths turnaround was normal. Off season less than 2 months. Then once back from tannery there can be a widespread of time frames for your taxi to do the mount. This is purdy much predicated on your taxi's workload. Most jobs are completed well within a year once you drop your deer etc off. My recent skull mount only took about 3 months as dem beatles are normally hungry!! Look forward to seeing your beautiful archery 10 PT when you get him back!!
