Well, it's the wild fur auction season again. The Fur Harvesters Auction started today and the North American Fur Auction starts on Monday January 26th and runs to the 29th.
I have only one beaver at the NAFA auction that I had caught last March. This is what my Lotting looks like for the auction.

How is the value of furs right now? Below is a link to today's Fur Harvesters Auction. The coyote market looks very good, the red and grey fox don't too bad either. The raccoon market, well, lets just say it has tanked...

[/quote] Yeah thats great about the coon. I got a bale of them to ship this year. I knew before the season they weren't gonna be worth it but the land owner wanted them caught so I did. I couldn't see them going to waste so they are put up and ready to ship in March. We'll see what they bring and hope my reds bring good money. I've been really taking extra time and care with my put up this year hoping for top dollar.

Well, the raccoons didn't fair much better at the NAFA auction yesterday. What is hilarious is I was reading a post on a trapping forum and a guy had mentioned that he got almost $6.00 for a possum but none of his coons sold. It's a sad day when possum is worth more than coon........
According to the auction schedule, the beaver and muskrat are to be on the block on Thursday. I'll let you know how I did.

Why is coon fur down?

Raccoons are mostly bought by the Russians and the Greeks. The Russian economy is going in the tank because of the big drop in oil prices. The same could be said for beaver as well. My beaver was bought back by the auction today meaning what NAFA thought they could get for that graded lot nobody bid for that dollar amount.
As for other fur, the Chinese are the big player in the fur market. Right now, what's in fashion are the longer furred animals such as coyote and fox. In South Korea, they love our muskrat. So those furs are still moving but just not as well as the record high prices paid for wild fur in 2013. Those record high prices brought a lot of trappers out in 2014 and that in turn produced a record amount of fur to the auctions last year. With so much more fur and the downward turn in the Eastern European and Asian economies have led to the big drop in fur prices. Supply and demand is the way markets work.

Well, the beaver didn't sell. It was "bought back" which means they didn't get the price they wanted for it and now will be put in storage until the next auction which will be in April. Other than coyote prices, everything was way down. It's amazing that 2 years ago, wild fur saw record prices and they didn't have enough to auction off! Well, that's what happens with a market system.

Capital markets. All of that hard work.....and it's hard work....and now it's roll your eye's time, or smile time! Wow. This is such an interesting education.
