I only have two traps set right now because of the extreme cold. How cold? Well....being the savvy expert woodsman and hunter that I am..... .....It's so cold out there that every deer track and fox track that I checked was frozen. THAT'S how cold it is. Oh...my traps were empty, not frozen, and no fox or coyote tootsie steps around 'em....yet.

Dutch, so far....2 Greys, One Raccoon, One Possum. Not bad considering I've only had a few set at a time and I've pulled 'em over Christmas and during rifle. The "season" runs thru mid Feb. I have places that just are not trapped. This is going to replace my deer hunting. Or....at least my deer hunting by myself!! I figure when I can't crawl onto my cart and turn on the key.....I'll have to think about calling it quits. smileys-whistling-823718....maybe. But...there is always target shooting!!

How cold is it you ask??? I check my piddly two traps today and cleared the snow away, checked to see that they were not frozen (peat moss is wonderful "stuff" to sift over traps to keep them dry. It's like magic pixy dust!!) So, I brushed away the snow using whatever nature had available....such as a chunk of pine or a piece of brush....then I re-baited 'em and re-sprayed 'em with fox pee. Man....does that stuff STINK!! However, it's so COLD out that there is a 1.5 year old doe that has been hanging out behind my house for a week or more. Now, this shows you how the cold temp's, light powder snow of 4", and the wind favors the BP hunter. When I "snuck" over the hill in plain sight of this doe, she was standing up feeding. But she was looking away from me. The wind was howling up the hollow but she never heard me. I stopped, she finally turned. I was about 60 yards away. She looked at me but never really saw me. Of course I was sitting on my cart so she probably could not make out the form of a human. Then I just started to go and she, of course, saw the movement. Well, I had to drive about 60 yards, then to a 360 degree turn around and down a gas well access road...she watched me as I drove by her at about 30 yards. She just stood there....looking very cold....as if to say....."Hey....I'm so cold at this point....just shoot me and put me outta my misery!!!" Of course, I'm too busy trapping and I'm not in the mood to field dress!! Even if I have a tag (and I do) it's too cold to do all of that!!! Dave

Davet, anything above –459.67 degrees F has got some heat in the air...just sayin'
Absolute zero
Absolute zero is the lowest possible temperature where nothing could be colder and no heat energy remains in a substance.
Absolute zero is the point at which the fundamental particles of nature have minimal vibrational motion, retaining only quantum mechanical, zero-point energy-induced particle motion.
By international agreement, absolute zero is defined as precisely; 0 K on the Kelvin scale, which is a thermodynamic (absolute) temperature scale; and –273.15 degrees Celsius on the Celsius scale.
Absolute zero is also precisely equivalent to; 0 degrees R on the Rankine scale (also a thermodynamic temperature scale); and –459.67 degrees F on the Fahrenheit scale.

It's cold.I have to go home tonight and put the plow on my truck.I dropped the plow in a bad spot at the end of last winter and never got around to moving it.We probably only have about 6" of snow but it drifted right over my plow and my road is starting to get blown shut.I friggin hate winter.

Freytown, Ya know....if you would have offered to field dress....I would have whacked her.....we could have put her on the cart and I would have paid the processor. We could have split her 50\50. But....where were you this am? confused-smiley-013
