What R U using for bait? Acorns? smileys-whistling-823718 no lol he decided to jump off the log at the wrong spot. I was just busting on ya!! rofl I figured something had to be up with that. OTOH, early in the trapping season I did trap a small groundhog. And it must have been out of curiosity that he sprang the trap 'cause the bait and lure I use is purely for fox\coyote. Raccoon will come to it as well but my target is the "canine" group.

finally got something.. actual animal no squirrel this time Ok....now yer killin me. Lots of animals running around in the woods. What did ya catch? I managed to get my first "grinner" last night. I'm not much into doing anything with grinners, and my skinning buddy doesn't really like 'em, so I figured it was a good time to try out my new home-made catch-pole. I got it around the possum's neck just fine, got the trap loose and his foot slipped out of the trap. Then I loosened the catch pole. Possum sat there for a good 5 minutes not realizing he was free. So, I made a few noises and he moved....then realized he was free and he took off. No harm, no foul. If he would have been a raccoon or fox.....different outcome. Dave

i got the same thing but kept him to practice skinning. but i had something break a cable the other day so it has a trap on its foot. hopeing to catch it to get trap back. i also today got to test my welders glove theory....... i got my aunt and uncles cat it took a while of calm talking and petting but eventually was able to get trap off. ran away just fine then it continued on his way

Dave so it was nothing special but atleast it wasn't another squirrel. although i did get one a few days ago

I took a closer look at what your squirrel was trapped in and I don't see any type of swivel on your setup. Do you have any swivel's on your cable? Without swivel's the cable will just keep twisting and,....something has to give.

Going to pull all of mine tomorrow but ive got another area to trap. Only thing that sucks is I can only keep fox.

I do NOT recommend .22 shorts to dispatch that.
Also, you may want to try 2 pair of welding gloves and A LOT of quiet talking when you try to release it.......

I know of trappers that have caught turkey just because a flock had wandered by and one had stepped on the trap, but obviously this bear had smelled your bait and was looking for the source to munch on!! Great video!! Glad he was long gone before you got there!! Dave

My brother caught a cub years ago, and mom was close by. He released the cub, with the help of 2 other guys, and the cub was none the worse for wear.
Cool stuff you got there. Quite an experience!

Thanks for posting the video. That is a prime example of why it is so important to anchor your traps very well. He didn't break your wire did he?

He didn't break your wire did he? nope you can see when the one little tree had really moved he had wrapped wire around it and he pulled free.. but the hair on this trap was the same as the hair on the trap i lost so... i dont think this is the first one ive caught
