Did anyone take a youth out for squirrel yesterday? It seems everybody is focus on deer these days, but as a young hunter, squirrel hunting was my favorite my way to spend Saturdays.

Had some kids out on our Hunters United page for squirrel, pheasant and deer. Pretty good mix. Got lots of photos of kids rained out yesterday who really wanted to hunt with Dad or Mom today. A shame they couldn't. Today was perfect.

I hope they got out to enjoy the forests today even though they were allowed to hunt. My 14 1nd 16 yr old sons had a parade on Saturday but the 16 year old got home in time to hunt for a couple hrs. He choose to archery hunt. Both boys and my wife(their mother)and I moved a stand and cleared shooting lanes today. We also went for a long walk and scouted a couple areas we haven't hunted for a couple years. Beautiful day to be out there.

I normally spend Sunday mornings in the woods as well. Sure would be nice to take my bow and do some hunting though.

I think squirrel hunting is a near perfect way to help teach young hunters. They can also learn alot about hunting by spending time in the autumn woods with a knowledgable adult(or by themselves) without the focus on hunting. Youth, and all of us, have so much more opportunity now than ever before. I don't think I'll ever get the big push for hunting on Sundays.

I don't think I'll ever get the big push for hunting on Sundays. That's perfectly fine but why stop others from being able to hunt if they choose? Do you really feel your safety would be jeopardized if you were out moving your stand while I was hunting? I hunt all the time and never fear for my safety not even the first day of rifle season the most participated day of the year for hunting.

I like to go out into the woods always. Today it's on my cart, but that doesn't stop the enjoyment. But today, unlike when I was a kid, I always take a at least a 357 revolver along with me. That and my hunting license is in my pocket. Why? Because today you just never know when your going to cross paths with a coyote. I keep seeing the local turkey flocks getting smaller and smaller and my chats with the local bow hunters who tell me the same thing, and they see the coyotes out there as well. It's a tough life being a turkey!! Every day you wake up...and there's always somebody trying to eat you!!!

Squirrels are fun but my son and I are addicted to deer. We'll get out and shoot some squirrels this year after a few deer are in the freezer. His football season ended this past saturday so we may mix in a little mid day squirrel hunting.

I went scouting today since I have been busy with work and other things and haven't got out much. The bow stayed in the truck and I went for a walk. Ran into anther hunter and he didn't bother me and I didn't bother him. Plenty of room out there. Would have been the same if it had been Sunday. I didn't feel the least threatened by anyone. It's a ant hill made into a mole hill imo.

Nothing like a youth squirrel hunting thread turning into a Anti Sunday Hunting vs Pro Sunday Hunting debate Carry on!! popcorn The weather last weekend reinforces a point many in favor of Sunday hunting have been trying to get across. As windy as it was on Saturday around my place, it would've been a waste of time to squirrel hunt. Sunday on the other hand had much better conditions, so it is relevant to the topic being discussed. For me personally, I see it as having the freedom to do as I choose to on any day of the week.

I rarely see a squirrel in my neck of the woods. There were never very many in our area. Might see one or two per year, if that.
Did notice the chippies were back in some numbers. They are up and down as well. Can't shoot them tho.

Squirrel population is as healthy as it has been in years around my place. The flip side to that is the hawk and owl population seems to be at an all time low for the area. I think the predator numbers (avian) got to the point that they couldn't find enough food and moved on. It's amazing now quickly the squirrel and rabbit population rebounded.
