When I think how rare this is, the deer had to be there to trip the camera, and the grouse were just behind the deer. Pretty amazing the timing of it.

Nice catch on film. Is that on your food plot Dutch? Yes. It was early morning. Funny tho, my brother, the grouse hunter, doesn't get out hunting until well after 9 AM as he says the grouse sleep in? rofl

Neat video!
I talked to a biologist one time who said grouse were more active later in the day feeding. I've never noticed much difference.

I watched a few grouse last year, from a ground blind, feeding on a clover plot. The one was about 10 ft away. It was cool.
It was getting pretty dark and then they flew up into the trees. It sorta shocked me how late they fed.
Was good to see them using the clover. Saw them twice in that plot.

very nice vid! I always wondered why for habitat they don't plant the logging roads with clover after a cut. grouse love it and having it in and all around cover would be fantastic.

Most DCNR timbercuts specify that a mix, including clover, is seeded on log roads.
One log road by my place had been seeded with clover 4 times in 20 years.

Dutch,
Watch the crop contents from birds you shoot. Grouse usually feed heavier before going to roost. The later day birds usually have the fullest crops.

LOL I'll have to check with Grouse28 and see what he finds in grouse crops. Now wait, he doesn't shoot grouse either. rofl coffeespit
