I've been thinking about adding a camera or two. I have a stealth cam and two primos truth cams. All three work fairly well. I have had several flops in the past and returned them to Cabelas so I decided to read reviews this time. Heck, everyone in the world is reviewing trail cameras and the reviews all seem to contradict each other. I was looking at a moultrie i880 and found a 9.8 out of possible 10 but then found a 2.7 out of 5 and a 3.1 of 5 and another 6.9 of 10.....? Same thing with a couple of others. No constant good rating for any one brand or model.....! Guess I'll just take a chance.

Yep, I agree. Hard to figure out which camera is best. However, ignoring trigger speed and quality of photo, I think the coolest trail camera is the one that sends pictures to either your cell phone or email. I have a Covert Special Ops Code Black. It works pretty good. I love getting pics almost real time all hours of the day. It cost me an extra $10 a month to add a line to my AT&T account with unlimited data. The camera is essentially a camera with a cell phone integrated that sends text messages with photos attached. It can also send email messages but I dont use the email. Another good feature is you can send the pics to multiple recipients. I send the pics to my Son and Son-in-law at the same time. Here is a link to the camera: covertscoutingcameras.com/products/cameras/special-ops-code-black/

Bowbum,
Friend of mine was at the gun shop in East Smithfield the other day, Said they showed him some pics they got with a camera they sell, and he thought they were good pic's. Said the camera was about $100, but I can't recall the name. If you up that way, the new store is pretty nice, they set it up like a mini Cabelas, lots of mounts including sheep, and full size grizzly.........worth the stop by.

I've been looking for another one myself. I have one of the Stealth cams, but the trigger speed on it seems to be too slow, I get an awful lot of pics of partial or no deer. I was looking at the moultrie 880 as well, but noticed the same thing with the reviews. It seems as though most people either love or hate the one they have, good impartial reviews are hard too find since it seems most people don't have a variety of them to make a good comparison against. I was seriously considering one of the Browning cams, I've just been too busy with other things to do any further research.

Cuddeback has a new one out, shaped like the Moultries, and 1/4 second trigger, vs about 2 seconds for the Moultries.
I may give that one a try next, but, I have enough cams for now.

I use Bushnell Cameras and like them a lot. Not sure of the model numbers right now - they are HD though - because they are out in the woods!

I really don't need a camera, If I have sign of deer using the area where my stand is going to be, that is good enough for me. I like surprises. I had to move my stand because of the sale of the property my stand was on, I did some scouting and put the stand well within shooting range of three trails. I am confident I am in the correct spot.

Haven't been up that way in a while Buzz. I'll have to check it out. Was past your place on Saturday but didn't see much going on.
It is not a "need" for me. My stands are set and I've hunted on this 55 acres for 34 years. I like know what is moving through, what is staying, if there are coyotes, bears and bobcats and where they seem to like to travel and when.
It's about information, (not necessarily only hunting information), and sometimes entertainment.

I agree 100% Bob, using the camera is kind of like hunting in itself. I personally only have 1, and haven't even put it out yet, but just do in the back yard to see what stroll's by the pond. By the way Bob, I sold my company in April, the wife and I are now unemployed.......for the rest of our lives......just like you......

The wife and I often declare that we are going to really retire some day but I dread that day. We work harder now then when we were gainfully employed and harder than many "employed" people, only difference is we don't get an hourly wage or benefits......other than the satisfaction gained from the effort. Good luck with retirement.....didn't think you were in that age group though.

TRUE,On top of that,I believe they scare mature deer.I've only ever killed two bucks that I got pictures of and they were both killed well over a mile away.I use them because it's a fun thing to do with my kids but I pull them at least a week before archery season starts. I've had and used a pile over the years. Most worked well for a while but eventually died or got eaten by bears.I had several different bushnell trophy cams. They'd die.I'd send them back and they'd they'd dend me a new one.Eventually a bear would get it and that's not covered under warranty lol.I've yet to buy one that I'd recommend as a long term investment.
