Looks like harvest in 3A is about a third of what it was in 2003.
I am not seeing anywhere near the sign I did back in 02-03. Not even close.
Very interesting info in the link!

Interesting questions, analysis, decision making, 2014-2015 fall and spring season dates already set. PGC decision making for fall and spring dates for 2015-2016 through 2016-2017 and into 2017-2018 will be interesting to follow (next 3 years). Predator populations are an absolute impact. Habitat... forests, mixed farming and woods, and riparian zones, others, all will be crucial to wild turkey home range survival between 2014-2015 and 2023-2024 time frames.
Winter and Spring weather conditions for the next 10 years along with predation, food sources, woods and waters will have a direct impact on wild turkey survival the next 10-15 years, just like habitat, home range, predators, weather and yearly food sources have been the past 100 years. And we all know what the 1900's-1930's habitat were like. PGC Wild Turkey Management, sound scientific wildlife management principles, increased Pennsylvania's wild turkey populations from 3,000-5,000 to over 300,000 in 70 past years.
350,000-400,000 estimated state-wide wild turkey populations for multiple 3 year periods may just be a figment of my imagination over the next 10-15 years. Time will tell like it always does. Like PGC estimated and measured 1980-1989, 1990-1999, and 2000-2009, and now they are currently 5 years into estimating and measuring this decade. 2010-2019 is still in working order. Somehow 2020-2029 would interesting to know.
Now go back an enter in the yearly known hunting season dates, and the yearly estimated wild turkey hunter numbers and the yearly estimated season harvest rates since the 1930's - 1940's and the future PGC Management Plans For Wild Turkeys In Pennsylvania now gets real interesting.
Pretty much done that's why I have never worried about Pennsylvania's start date for spring or fall hunting seasons. PGC management leaders and wild turkey biologists clear back to Dr. Roger Latham, Jerry Wunz, and Arnie Hayden (and a couple dozen other PGC and NWTF people) pretty much had it nailed correctly, and the Gobbler Leg Band Study and the current Hen Harvest Rate Study validates all those wild turkey management decisions been decided, approved, and implemented over the past 40-50-60 years. Jerry Wunz is going back a while. He lived in my area when I was a kid. If we ran into him when we were out hunting my Dad always stopped and talked to him. Agreed he knew what he was talking about.
