Mugs and I leave tomorrow morning for a trip out to camp and a pheasant hunt with On Point Outfitters. Mugs seems to know what is coming up, and he is really excited. Of course Mugs is always excited, being ADHD as he is. :DMy buddy Larry is going along just in case I miss a bird. He will be available to mop up. I should be back sometime late Thursday, and will try to get a few photos to post.

Sounds good Mutt, shoot some birds for that dog. He is the only reason I have taken up bird hunting again, John. Bird hunting is no fun without a good dog with which to share it, as you well know. thumbsup

Well, we are home. Mugs is really tired. He is not yet in shape for bouncing around high weed patches. Neither are the two old men e was hunting for. He did his job and found all the birds. Two flushed wild when he got close. He pointed the rest. We did not do our jobs. Larry and I will admit to having a lousy shooting day. I did take a few photos but left the camera sitting on the table at the cabin, so none will be posted just yet. Mugs says he wants to go again.
On Point Outfitters have birds that fly darned well. Some of the pheasants Mike put out for us are probably still flying and may end up in Lancaster. This was not a preserve hunt where most of the birds can hardly walk. It was definitely a challenge. Mike says no problem setting up a hunt for us this coming March or April.
More later when Mugs and I finish our naps.

that's the fun of hunting ....sore legs to start the season and you get a little thinner from lack of something to put in the pot ...hehe ....glad you had a good time.

So it isn't one of these places that rock the birds to sleep and put them out right before the hunters get there. That kind of stuff is a joke.

You know Mike, not everyplace is the same, released birds can be challenging and if you own a bird dog you hunt for the dog, the dog doesn't know or care if the birds are planted and you cannot train a bird dog without showing them birds and lots of them. It may not be your cup of tea but it isn't a joke.

I was just talking about rocking the birds to sleep being a joke. My Grandpa did a hunt like that and he said the birds wee disoriented.
