Where did you say your backyard is? Is that some sort of antler trap you have set up at the corn?

Yep, that is just a quick one a whipped up in my backyard. I have others that are more elaborate. Actually pound in the posts facing outwards away from the bait at like a 60 degree angle. Then put the bungies every six inches or so. The get the racks caught/pressured reaching in and pulling back out.

Left side with the bladed brow. For the life of me, I cant find his other side. I think it's over at my dads, as we were doing an antler compare.

He's still there, alive and kicking. Problem is I only have a couple hundred yards of access to hunt him. He's coming off of a lease that I'm not part of.
The funny thing is how overhunted that lease is. Either that buck is extremely smart, or they are terrible hunters.

The funny thing is how overhunted that lease is. Either that buck is extremely smart, or they are terrible hunters. Last weekend we were paddling the canoe in Pine Creek, along the rail trail. We were about 10 ft off the shore, when this huge buck jumps up out of the weeds and runs straight up to the rail trail. He had about the only flat spot on that near vertical stream bank. I don't know how long he had been there, but some folks had just walked down the trail and also some bike riders had just gone past. I guess we just invaded his comfort zone. He was 2 steps up off the creek, so we were REAL close when he cut out of there.

Always wanted to build one but I was told antler traps are illegal in PA and didn't feel like dealing with the hassle if it were true. I think the fear was that they get stuck and get harmed, no way thats happening with this design so I think I'll go ahead and do that this year as well.

Well, I just got an answer from JohnS about antler traps, and he had to contact Harrisburg about it to be sure. Here is what he got from Harrisburg. "They are not legal, that activity would constitute “disturbing wildlife” which is a summary of the first degree that carries a $1000 to $1500 and imprisonment up to 90 days."

Right - So, I'd not call this an antler trap. Its just a feeder that happens to knock em off. lol

I guess, if improperly constructed, they have seen cases where entanglement, when the antlers are not ready to drop, have killed or harmed deer. Now, if ya wanna tie a rope around the neck of one of those Potter County hogs for me, well, that would be ok, I guess.

I wouldn't call it an antler trap, since it's impossible to get tangled in it. It only put pressure on the loose antlers as the reach in. If one got under it, the bungie would just pop off the top.

as long as there isn't a lot of tension on the cord those cords are known to take an eye out
