I saw this on another site. Is it true that Gander Mountain is removing taxidermy mounts from their stores, and if so, why? One of my friends has a number of his on loan to the Chambersburg store.

Supposedly is true. Word is the wife of the owner wants some changes to the Gander Mountain business plan and taxidermy is not in the new plan.

Cabelas is a much better place to shop anyway. Bet they never pull their mounts.

A friend of mine had several of his mounts at the Chambersburg store. Haven't heard from him as to what they did with his.

My guess is that Gander is going the route of being an "outdoor store" and moving away from hunting and fishing as the main focus.
I can understand that business plan. They can't compete with Cabelas and Bass Pro.

I asked a friend of mine who has a son that's working his way up through the hierarchy at Gander Mountain. He said that several stores, including the one in Chambersburg, are removing mounts for a couple of reasons. When you entered the store in Chambersburg, they used to has several mounts right in front of you including a full mount buck. That happened to be in the middle of the clothing area and changing rooms. It took up valuable square footage of sales area to have this display. Another reason he gave was although people would have their mounts on display, they never came in to clean them and Gander Mountain didn't want the liability of possibly ruining a mount. The final reason he gave was that people that donated the mounts would pass away and they didn't know who to contact about the mounts. Gander Mountain actually has mounts in storage that have no apparent owners. He didn't cite the owner's wife of having a problem with the mounts as a reason they're removing them.
I was just in Bass Pro Shop in Harrisburg about 3 1/2 weeks ago and I wish someone would clean the mounts in that place. The turkeys they have gliding amount the escalators had about a 1/4 inch of dust on them. If they're going to display mounts, couldn't they have someone give them a light dusting every once in a while?
I have to say that Cabelas in Hamburg seem to take the best care of their mounts. They might have someone on staff that takes care of that duty.

There's a Gander Mt. located in Greensburg pa. not that far from me. But I haven't stepped foot in that place in over two years. Their reloading supplies are at best 1.5 times that of anywhere else, on-line or local, and they are usually twice that of anyone else. Brass cost are out of sight and if I can pick up a pound of powder at a local gun shop for $23, you can bet Gander will be charging $29 for the same.
