Lost my best friend whisky this morning to a spinal problem. I hope there are lots of birds where he is now and a soft chair to lay on.

There's nothing like the day that they go, the only thing I try and remember is all of the great times we had and all of the birds in their lives, if were to come back to this world as a dog I hope to God my owner is a bird hunter. This guy is in my mind every day, oh the days we spent chasing birds and the nights I spent rubbing his ears while we talked about the great days we had. I miss him dearly, just as you will, a new pup helps but you can never replace a great friend or a great dog, especially if they are, one and the same.

Sorry Johns.. my hunting buddies and lifelong friends were all Labradors. Very sad day to see them go. Right now I am without a hunting buddie and don't plan on another unless I can get rid of the wife! The dogs just don't seem to live long enough.

My heart goes out to you John. Surely a hurt that takes a long time to heal.

My condolences, John. It is one of the hardest things we have to do when we say goodbye to a good friend like Whiskey. I am certain he is in a place where there are birds to point and hunters who never miss. I have buried a bunch of good friends, but it never gets easier. God bless.

My brother Dave, on the right in the pic above, had to put his setter, Frost, down in January of 2013. He sent the most simple, elegant and yet sad email I ever got. It read, "Frost's bell went silent at 10:30 AM." Was a very sad moment.
I think three days later he had a new pup, not the one pictured, but from the breeder on the left. And so a new adventure began
