Sounds like a good read. I'll add, this fella here can recount what life indeed was like hunting/trapping Northcentral, PA in the 1800's early 1900's en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eldred_Nathaniel_WoodcockI liked this read better than Philip Thome's. Thome's account of late 1700's early 1800's SW PA/Western Md. I take with a grain of salt.

Tome wrote about N Central PA outdoor life as well.
George Washington Sears, of Wellsboro had some interesting articles published as well under the pen name Nessmuk.

When I wrote the book it was based on a fictional caricature but many actual facts of what was happening in the area at the time, and actual locations. If your looking for a book with a lot of information of early settlers of northcentral pa. in the 1800's and their great feats as a hunter check out, ''Pa. Deer and Their Horns''. It was written by Henry W. Shoemaker and is very interesting.

Tome wrote about N Central PA outdoor life as well. You know what Dutch, now that I think about it, I believe I'm getting Tome cornfused (not to mention misspelled his name) with Meshach Browning. Browning had the exploits in SW PA, Western Md. But if memory serves, both his and Tome's accounts were somewhat questionable (sensationalized) quite often. Not fiction, just plenty of embellishment. I've read them all, just been a while.
