Hey folks...It's been awhile since I've been in here. I had a stroke and a heart attack at age 48 a few months ago. But I'm alive, and able to care for myself. This has been life-changing for me as I am unable to drive. Looking for folks in SE PA to take me out fishing and/or turkey hunting, as I am unable to drive. I have spots!!!

Larry, I feel for you man. I do. Look around for organizations that actually "do" events for the disabled. Being that you are unable to drive makes it very difficult for you. Have you applied for a shoot from a vehicle permit from the Game Commission? If you haven't done that yet then it's something you must do. It may not be something you use every time you hunt, but there may be times you do use it, and there may be times it will allow you access to areas that otherwise, you could not have access to. Plus, if you fish, it will only help you.

And you have PM, Dutch! A vehicle permit won't help me, as I can't drive anyway. I am mostly fine physically, but can't drive. I should be fine walking around the woods, and shooting a turkey, as long as it doesn't come in on my left side. My major impairment is a loss of left side peripheral vision, and some confusion when in public places. Of course, I will be VERY careful hunting birds. I feel I am able, and would never shoot without being absolutely certain of my target and what is beyond.

Actually, a permit to hunt form a vehicle could help you. You can get a friend to drive the vehicle and park it and then either walk away and hunt out of the vehicle or not hunt and sit in the vehicle with you.

I was thinking the same thing. Although I don't give the idea of Adult Mentor hunting rave reviews, for a number of reasons, you could benefit from a mentor here.... providing you don't have a network of folks that can help you out with such things. Not so much to "learn" how to hunt, but to overcome navigational type issues ?

Again, as I stated above, and I agree with JohnS, a shoot from the vehicle permit would be of help to you. You may not use it much, you don't have to use it all the time, or perhaps you may never use it....but it certainly won't hurt you to have one. I use mine more for getting access to area's that I simply cannot get to otherwise. Recently some friends of mine have cajoled me into doing some stream fishing with them. Well, at first I was pretty sure I would not be able to do this, but with some considerable thought, and using some aluminum hunting chairs, I found out that I can place said chairs in the "right places" and can in fact fish, have fun, rest when I want, and if the darn fish bite....actually catch 'em. My Game Commission shoot from the vehicle permit was the first permit the DCNR wanted to see when I applied for a permit to use my electric cart to access a stream that I would never be able to walk to or access any other way.
Apply for and get one. It's well worth the effort.
MHO

Fleroo, the adult mentoring program is for people who never hunted before, not for situations such as this.

I have not. Thanks for bringing this back Stroupy. If Larry gets this, Tim Smail lives his area, as does another few people I know who would help get him to the woods. I'm thinking if I called Sheriff Bunny Welsh or the pastor that took Little A out, they can find someone to get Larry out!
Larry, if you see this, message me!
