Ok, been looking for batteries for the upcoming trail cam season.
Box of 100 Duracells on eBay, with free shipping, $33 $.33 a piece
Lithiums go for about 80 for $103, free shipping. $1.29 a piece
I like the idea that lithium lasts longer and I find myself changing out alkaline when they still have 20% left. I also like the idea of less waste with litium, but, am I going to get that much more life out of them to compensate?
Which do you use and why?

Dutch, I put eight ($20.00 at Wal-Mart) lithiums in my cams in January and don't change them out until January the following year. Never have to worry about dead batteries through the year. They're well worth the price in my opinion.

Any idea how many pics you might get out of a set, roughly?

To be honest with you Dutch the last year or so I only get 30 plus or minus per two weeks (quit using salt and am on natural trails); not a lot. But I will say this; a piss ant got into my boys last summer and he had almost 3000 pics within a 24 hr. period. So I can't really answer your question I guess. I'm not sure how long they'd last with continual daily pics.

With the deer density you have, you should get at least 5 years out of a set of lithiums.I use lithiums.I put them out in June and pull the cameras at the end of sept without changing.

I get at least 6 months from a set of alkaline batteries and they easily survived the coldest winter we have had in a while. For 4 times the price, will I get two years out of lithiums? I get probably 500 pics a week, sometimes a lot more than that depending on location.
No matter what, it's a lot cheaper than the D batteries I used to buy and they lasted a month!

I have used lithium batteries in regular cameras and they do seem to outlast the alkalines by a good margin.

Lithium is what I use and they last twice as long as the Alkaline. I don't keep a count of how many photo I get, but it a lot.
