I think 35 Remington has enough knock down for the greys we have around here, now some of those big fox squirrels we see in the bottoms might need a bit more killin.

Skwirl, I'm not tryin to "muddy up" your post....but first off....that's a very fair price for one heck of a gun, and second....is it possible to simply have your 35Rem re-chambered to a 35 Whelan? Or are the pressures too high in the Whelan for the barrel thickness provided in the Marlin? Just asking. update: I just did a Google and found my answer right here for those who are interested: 35 Rem to 358 Winchester Conversion. Because the 35 Whelan is a long action and the 35 Rem is a short action, there is too much involved to simply rechamber it to a 35 Whelan. But, to rechamber to a 358 Winchester is very do-able. Dave

The 35 Whelen would blow that lever action sky high. Not too mention the action is too short and the bolt face is too small. The .358 runs into all the same problem. The only conversion he could do is the .356 Winchester and the guys who do it get sticky extaction because Marlin ran more aggressive threads on its .356 barrels than it did on it's 35 Rem barrels because of the higher pressure.
