Good one! Congrats! Which Ithaca do you have? I have one I bought new in 1963. Model 37 Super Deluxe Deerslayer. Came from the factory with a Williams Peep sight. I shot a boatload of deer with that Ithaca years ago. I used to hunt Aberdeen Proving Ground in MD and deer killed there did not count against state bag limits.
Last deer my old Ithaca killed was at 125 honest yards by my Grandson when he was about 13 years old. And, he had never shot the gun before he killed that doe. Story goes like this.. his Dad took him hunting in the morning. He had a Mossberg 20 guage youth model slug gun. But, his Dad took off at lunch to go pick up a deer from the butcher he had killed several days earlier with the bow. And while Dad was picking up his deer he decided to hunt a different area. Trouble was, he had my Grandson's slug gun in his truck!
Grandson was upset. He wanted to hunt the afternoon. I said no problem, I have a couple slug guns. Do you think you can shoot this old Ithaca 12 gauge with a peep sight? I told him it was easy, just center the front bead on the target while looking through the peep. He said, wow! This thing is cool!!
We got in a two man ladder stand within 100 yards of my house watching a hedgerow. A couple small deer came out about 3:30, and a big doe was holding back in the weeds. I told the Grandson to wait. It took about 45 minutes for that old doe to work out into the field for a clear shot. He finally squeezed off a shot and I could tell he whacked the old doe real good. By the time we got down it was dark. The old doe only went about 50 yards. She had been shot right in the boiler room!
Here's a picture of the Grandson with his old matriarch doe..

It was my second best Loggy! My best was about 5 years ago at 180 yards right in the broiler room. I bought my Ithaca about 10 years ago, it's a deerslayer, the last year Ithaca was located in New York. I put a Swift rifle scope on it. It's dead on with Winchester, Supreme, Dual Bond 2 3/4" slugs, 1,800 fps. I've always liked Ithaca's. I recently purchased a 1948 Ithaca, Model 37, featherlite 12 guage. Can't wait to hunt grouse.

I always heard Bushy that those NY Ithicas were great shooters!!
I once owned a Savage 210 bolt slugger & it was on fine shooter. I bought it when S Tier of NY was only SG with plans to hunt there which never happened. It had a front bolt/receiver lock-up vs the cheaper sloppy rear lock mossbergs..
