Well I'm a little late in posting this but my wife shot here 4th doe in 5 yrs of deer hunting. She is still in search of her first buck and wants one badly. Her luck with buck is not like her luck with Gobblers. Well the story goes like this. I sent her into a spot in the dark Monday morning, and trust me that's a feat of it's own because her sense of direction is at a level of zero, but she got there and got her insulated clothes on well before daylight. I hunted about 3/8's of a mile to her west. At 9:21 I send her a text asking if she was still awake because the woods was pretty much quiet and at 9:22 I get a text saying "yea, u?" and instantly the phone rings and it's her breathing extremely hard and with a excited shaky voice saying " I just shot a doe, I just shot a doe and she's down! I don't know what to do. What do I do now?" I giggled and said first you need to breath, set down and calm yourself and make sure your gun is ready for a buck coming. She promptly said "it is and I am ready". I told her I would be there in a little while. When I get there I get filled in on the story... She says she was in mid text to me when she hears something to her right and sees this doe running parrallel to her at 60 yds. Throws her phone, pulls up and makes the shot to the boiler room and she watches as she runs another 75 yds and piles up and calls me all worked up. Now what is amazing about this all is last year using my model 94 30-30, the gun she has always used, she had 8 doe standing at 40 yds and couldn't find any of them in the scope and a hr later she has a 8 point at 20 yds standing and couldn't find it either. So this yr she takes my 06 and I carry my flintlock. This year she smokes a doe running without a problem. Like she's shot running deer all her life. I'm amazed. Check out her shot in the pic below.
And yes boys she guts her own to! When she started turkey hunting with me in 2000 my only rule was if you kill it , YOU clean it. She has never had a problem with cleaning any of her turkey, pheasant, trout or deer. I couldn't ask for a better wife ! And she does one of the nicest gut jobs I have seen. She's like a surgen.
