First off what a beautiful day to be in the woods. It got a little windy in the afternoon, but it was pretty much a perfect day weather wise. The morning was nice and cool and so was the action. We didn't see a deer until late morning and that was a quick glimpse of 2 deer way above our stand. From 12 to 1 o'clock we did see another 4 or 5 deer, but they were all doe and one unknown. At 2:30 we decided to move out the ridge a few hundred yards to setup along the neighbors field. Right before dark 3 doe followed by this buck came into the field. Colton made a nice high lung shot on it. The buck did just make it out of sight, and even though we thought we heard it fall, we decided to give it an hour just to make sure. The buck turned out to be a 6 point.

Having three hunting at the same time would certainly be hard.My daughter is showing an interest in hunting and I honestly have no idea how I'd take two kids with my limited time.

You would find a way Doug. We always do for our kids. We always do.

It isn't the easiest thing, but you just have to make do. I am fortunate that we can hunt beside the house and I work close to home, so we can hunt a lot in the evenings in the early season. Makes it tough with the Mentored youth program in that I can't take 2 out at the same time. Not really a problem with archery deer, but would be nice for small game and rifle deer. I understand the one to one thing, but honestly with my kids it wouldn't be an issue to have 2 of them at the same time. After seeing some kids though I know why the rule is in effect.

So cspot how many freezers do you have? With all your success your electric bill must be sky high! Your rolling in deer burger!

I have one big chest freezer. We will have 7 in there now, but a few of those were small deer. We put 6 in last year and they were gone in July or August. I think the backstraps are all gone except for Colton's only because we haven't butchered it yet. I would really like to have 2 more for the freezer. We don't buy hardly any beef and the kids are getting big enough now that the meat sure doesn't last long. We still have some unfilled tags, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I would love just one deer to myself I gang hunt so if we shoot one it gets shared by all so it doesn't last as long. I shot the one in archery but will still share it with the guys. Unless we get a good amount. We have a deer roast every year so the roasts automatically go to that.
